Heated blanket/throw

Does anyone know how cost effective heated blankets are? What is the hourly electric cost? Quite a few sites have these now so might be handy to pick one up for next winter.

I got one for my birthday a few years ago and it is my favourite thing. I like being cosy wrapped under it whilst the room is cold. I just don't heat the house and use the blanket. It's amazing!

Frollop · 02/04/2022 23:12

It's one of the best things that happened to me this year from recommendations on here...if I had to choose between an electric blanket at winter or a nice man...I'd choose the blanketGrin

I've just started using mine (heating off!). It's amazing!

Can people who recommended them post come links please.

caringcarer · 03/04/2022 00:02

I got one for Xmas and when I am home in daytime on my own I put heating on for an hour or so then turn it off, do jobs about house so keep warm moving about. Then sit down with a coffee and Netflix and put heated throw on. It is so warm and soft and cheap to run.

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/04/2022 00:09

@ScrumptiousBears not the cheapest but I love it.

I got mine of eBay a couple of winters ago it's faux fur and Sherpa on the otherside. I love mine it's very cheap to run around 8p for 6 hrs on high. I only use it a few hours in the evening. I only put the heating on when others are cold now, it was always for me before as I feel the cold more. The only thing is it's only good for when you are relaxing in the evening and being still.

NerdyBird · 03/04/2022 00:25

I got one from Amazon, it's just like a nice fleecey throw. Great for working from home on chilly days.

ISpyCobraKai · 03/04/2022 00:25

I don't have a heated throw, but I do have an electric blanket on my bed and it's lovely.
It's about 2p a night to run, but I'll often spend the day in bed too, to keep warm.
Much cheaper than heating.

Frollop · 03/04/2022 04:03

@ScrumptiousBears Dreamland luxury heated throw in Argos £53. You can get in John Lewis if in stock and other retailers like Amazon etc. Not sure how to post link

"I was given one and gave it back. Electricity induces a magnetic field. It doesn’t seem safe or healthy to wrap your body in a magnet"

You are surrounded by the earth's magnetic field as it is. Guess we're all fucked then!

Seriously though this is a low power device which means very low current. As such the magnetic field produced will be very weak.

The earth is a giant magnet.

Just ordered the Lakeland one, made the mistake of ordering one that is designed to go on a mattress this winter, it’s itchy and you supposed to keep it flat 🙈

lobsterkiller · 03/04/2022 06:43

Love mine, I did buy the £70 one ftom argos as I liked the style/colour.

They really are a great alternative to having the heating on.

Yellowghost · 03/04/2022 07:48

Thanks for all the responses everyone, good to know how cost effective they are.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2022 08:00

Mine is from Argos, had it years and it's brilliant.

LittleFriendSusan · 03/04/2022 08:03

@MyDcAreMarvel

It’s this one from Lakeland.
I got the same one for £80 in Costco last year but it looks like they're out of stock online. I bought for WFH - my office is on the north side of the house and can get quite chilly - wanted this to take the edge off when it's not really cold enough to put the heating on (rest of the house gets too warm!).

It's really cosy, I tend to turn it on for an hour or 2 on the medium heat setting & find it retains heat well. TBH I often use it without turning it on too - I love getting wrapped up to watch TV of an evening. The backing was quite stiff and rustly to begin with but that's worn off the more I've used it.

Tyrozet · 03/04/2022 08:04

I've just given myself second degree burns the other day filling a hot water bottle. These sound like a much safer idea!

LittleFriendSusan · 03/04/2022 08:07

And I just realised I forgot to answer the question 🙄. I haven't noticed any increase in our electric bills & think the power usage is pretty low. It will shut off automatically after 1 / 3 hours.
