Free food

Hi everyone,
I just thought I'd mention the Olio app for those that aren't aware.
Places like Tesco, Pret and KFC give away unwanted food to Olio volunteers like me ("Food Waste Heroes") who will collect it then list it on the app for people to request.
I'm not sure about elsewhere but in my town 8.30pm is the collection time for Tesco, so if you log on after 9pm there is lots of food being given away. We can only give away use-by food before midnight so I always end up with lots not collected, but most can be frozen or is fine for a few days. Examples are in these photos, with the Food Waste Heroes' names blurred out.
I would love for more people to start requesting food!

Photos didn’t come up, bumping for you as it’s a great initiative.

Another tip I forgot to say is to keep an eye out for food around Easter because the supermarkets always over-order.
A couple of days before Xmas I got a collection from a small Tesco Express store and there were 90 sandwiches and 45 ready meals, as well as loads of parsnips and sprouts.

Sorry I keep pressing post too soon.
There were so many sandwiches and ready meals because everyone was too busy buying Xmas stuff, so the normal food just wasn't being bought. There's so much good food just not being bought.

At the moment my area has loads of flowers being offered as well. It's amazing how cheering it is to have a vase of flowers when they are totally out of budget to buy. They make me smile whenever I see them.

I get loads of veg which I make into soup and it has been a godsend since I joined at Christmas.

2 of our local volunteers are being very active and have managed to secure a small unit from the council to operate from as picking up from home is something not everyone is comfortable with. The food heroes are still collecting the food but other volunteers are helping to sort and share.

They have also persuaded the nearest Aldi to join as well so there is lots of stuff available with 3 local Tescos as well.
