Do you get used to being cold?

Stopped using the boiler (oil and can’t afford to refill the tank) the cold just seems to settle in my bones and toes. Am wearing layers, scavenging for wood to light the wood stove a few hours a day. How do you get used to the cold. Im just mooching around between heat sources. Electric bathroom radiator and oil radiator in the hall. Wearing layers and moving around but Still freezing even with endless hot drinks.

Do you just eventually adjust to being cold? Super warm at work so I spend the other half of the week boiling.

@LadyCatStark

I wonder if all the companies (and councils in my case) know that whilst they’re saving a fortune by closing offices, their staff are stuck at a computer all day in dressing gowns, fingerless gloves and hats? 🤔
I work for the council(environmental services so runs 7 days a week and no wfh), I’m at work today and it’s practically tropical in here. Hate going home at 7pm as the fire hasn’t been lit today.

@Spudlet must we say on every post that of course it does not apply to young children, the elderly, or those otherwise vulnerable? It's like the threads on saving on the weekly shop when people have to jump on and say that none of the tips will work for someone with just a kettle to cook with.

@Woeismethischristmas tropical sounds perfect to me 😂. We’re no longer allowed near our offices unless we book a room in one of 2 both of which are 30 mins from the area I actually work in 🙄.

I lived in a cold flat in my 20s even with heating. No you don't get used to it.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Pop a jumper or fleece on for goodness sake and your body acclimatises to the rest

Mine doesn’t. I had a vest, long sleeved t and hoodie on yesterday and fleece lined jeans with knee high thermal wool socks. I was still cold with the heating on.

Same I'm currently in my house, was warm from being busy when I sat down but now after 40 minutes of sitting on the sofa I'm cold to the bone hands feet and nose freezing to touch and the skin on my fingers is becoming painful, despite wearing one normal pair of socks and one pair of thick wooden socks, thermal leggings, vest, long sleeve top, jumper and padded jacket with a blanket over my legs. I've had to get up and put the heating on - thankfully not on a pre pay meter or probably wouldn't have that option.

Oh ad that's in a first floor newish build flat with double glazing. Remember all to well growing up in a 100 year old cottage in the 80's. That was another level
