If you could set your own hours, what would you do?

20 hours a week. After a month of 5 hours a day, mon-fri, I can set my own days/hours.

Curious how everyone else would work it, just because I'm nosy.

Monday 7.5 hours
Tuesday 7.5 hours
Wednesday 5 hours
Thurs/Fri off

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/04/2022 11:21

Monday: off
Tue-Fri: 9.30-15:00 with half an hour lunch

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 02/04/2022 11:24

4-8am x 5.

sparklyfacemask · 02/04/2022 11:25

Monday and Friday off
T/W/Th 6.5hrs ish 8.30-3 (or whatever fits best with childcare arrangements)

Cocomarine · 02/04/2022 11:28

Depends on what I was doing. Generally I’d like to get it out of the way, so 3 full-ish days. But, if it was a job where I wanted to stay connected with colleagues or track work through a cycle, then 4x 5hrs.

I’m not sure that it really helps you? You’re the one who knows whether you hate working all day, or prefer more days off?

DaisyDozyDee · 02/04/2022 11:31

It depends on both family circumstances and the nature of the job. I split my hours over 5 days because if I miss a day, the chaos builds up and makes the job harder. Basically, I fake a full time service on part time hours. If the nature of the job were different, I’d prefer a day or two free.

@EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter

4-8am x 5.
That's a fantastic idea, but I assumed it does still need to be in others working hours, although, they haven't specified that.

This is me OP! I do 9.30 to 2.30 Monday to Thursday but occasionally start a bit earlier eg 8.30 til 1.30 if there's something I need to do earlier in the afternoon. Due to the short hours I'm never exhausted at the end of the day, but still get a long weekend .

LunaLoveFood · 02/04/2022 11:41

I do 9.30am-2.30pm which fits perfectly around school hours.

shinynewapple22 · 02/04/2022 11:41

I worked this pattern when DS was young to enable me to do school drop-off / pick-up, and more recently as I had to help my parents each day . Now I just use the time for hobbies / relaxing / socialising .

Antarcticant · 02/04/2022 11:43

@livyaz

Monday 7.5 hours Tuesday 7.5 hours Wednesday 5 hours Thurs/Fri off
Similar to this but I'd have Monday and Tuesday off and Friday as the 5 hour day.
Change123today · 02/04/2022 11:46

If you can arrange childcare and you don’t need to be in every day - 20 hours in 3 days.

In the past I did 8-2:30 over 4 days - worked around school. I now do 4 days 8-4:30 (increased hours)

YouMadeABear · 02/04/2022 11:48

9.30am-1.30pm Mon-Fri so I could do the school runs and have a free hour in the afternoon to tidy the house.

DressingPafe · 02/04/2022 11:57

I don’t have school runs so I roughly do between 8 and 9 to between 12 and 1. This gives me the full afternoon to do what I want. If I have plans I might do a full day one day to get a full day off, but generally I have no need of it. I do approx 15-20 hours a week. I find it’s a nice balance.

thefootballcoacheswife · 02/04/2022 11:57

10-5 Tuesday to Friday. I would love that. Currently do 40 hours out of the home (I manage care services) and it knackering trying to do that and fit the rest of life in too. I've been doing those sort of hours for 20 years and I really fancy a break

AppleKatie · 02/04/2022 12:03

I’d be seriously tempted to do - 7am-6pm (with an hour for lunch) on Tuesday and Wednesday and have the rest of the week off.

Obviously only works if you have a DH/P for childcare cover those two days.

Chewbecca · 02/04/2022 12:05

I opened to respond to the title, to which the answer was going to be 0!

But for you, it depends on your circumstances / commitments & whether you are an early bird or not.

HelpINeeedSomebody · 02/04/2022 12:05

I'd do Monday 12-5 then Tuesday and Wednesday 9-5.

balalake · 02/04/2022 12:08

I'd do the hours between Tuesday and Thursday, probably evenly split.

RoundGlass · 02/04/2022 12:23

Wed 10 hours
Thursday 10 hours

LndnGrl · 02/04/2022 12:36

I'm thinking 10-2 Monday to Friday. No children/school runs, but I have an exercise class 8-9 m,w,f. But they proposed 9-3 with an hour for lunch. Why I'd need a lunchbreak, I don't know, but maybe they don't want me to work while others are on their lunch.

I want to get another job around this one though.

I do Mon and Tues 8:30-4:30 with half an hour lunch, 9-2 (if wfh) or 9:30-2:30 (if in office, to allow commuting time) wed. Works great for me, helps I have a flexible boss who is happy for me to work around health appointments. Works the same way, if it's better for my role to swap a day occasionally and I can accommodate with childcare, then I do. I LOVE 2pm Wednesdays, work done and an hour before the school run 😁

Jules912 · 02/04/2022 14:18

I do 22.5 hours and do 3 days 8-4. I thought about 5 shorter days but I have an hours commute (can't wfh full time) so couldn't fit it in school hours anyway. The days off let me catch up on housework so I have the weekends free.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/04/2022 14:26

8.15-2.15 (6hr so no break needed) x 1 day
8.15-1 (4h 45m) x 3 days (total 14h 15m)
Weekday off (always a Monday) x1 day

That way I could do all school runs and not have to work when the kids were home.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/04/2022 14:27

I'd not choose a job with a set 1 hour lunch.
