Tips to make life easier

Would anyone share little tips or tricks that make their life easier? I feel like life is such a slog at the moment, I can’t keep on top of anything and I need some hacks that might make a little difference! I have three children (twins age 5 and an 18 month old). The twins are in school 9-3.30. The baby is home with me so I have very little time to myself. I’m only getting the basics done when it comes to housework and I feel like I’m working non stop until I go to bed.

go easy on yourself
does the 18 month have a nap?
get stuff done then
and get out of the house

Sharkter · 02/04/2022 09:37

He will nap for 90 mins or so and I use that time to try and do tasks that are impossible with him around.
I should add that DH works full time but does do an awful lot when he’s home but even with the two of us it all feels so hard and relentless which is why I’m wondering if there are any little tips to help or this is just the way it is

There are a few threads around on this. What is it you are finding difficult?

Look at TOMM and/or cleaner. Spray mop and robot cleaner
3 week meal plan, make Friday pizza night
Weekly online shopping
Don’t iron
Get the kids to pull their weight, put water bottles and snack boxes next to the sink, the same with plates after eating. Tidy their rooms, make their bed

Amazon subscribe and save is great too. I use it for cat food, kitchen cleaner, deodorant.

I haven’t ironed since the twins were born Blush. It’s keeping the house in order I suppose is what I find hardest and making sure there are meals on the table. I’ve started buying frozen veg to save on preparation. The twins have school lunches so I don’t have to do pack ups.

I recommend struggle care by kc davis - its a website, there's an ebook (v cheap) and an fb group, shes on tiktok also with mini tips and explanations

Lots of stuff to make things easier and remove the guilt of doing things in a way that works for you (and how to find what works for you)

Sharkter · 02/04/2022 10:26

Thanks @Lubeyboobyalt I’ll take a look.
I have looked at TOMM before and really should start it. I feel like I’d need to do the boot camp first though and I have no idea how I’d find the time for that. I think I’m going wrong somewhere as even the time to sit down and meal plan seems impossible

Lower your standards for now while the children are so little, it won't always be such a slog.

My tips are:

  • prepare outfits the night before if you are going out the next day.
  • clean the bathroom whilst you are in there either with the children or when you are showering, brushing teeth, etc.
  • clean the kitchen after dinner so you don't wake to a mess. Same for living areas.
  • online shopping
  • batch cook things like bolognaise, veg curry even mash potato, so you cook once and eat twice.
  • try not to buy things you don't need, less stuff = less cleaning.
  • Make your bed in the morning.
  • Hoover a few times a week, everything looks better with clean floors.

Good work on the ironing front and the frozen veg, its contains more nutrients. Have you discovered frozen onions and lazy garlic?

With TOMM you don’t need to do the bootcamp at all. With the Friday focus it sorts it all out and if you are struggling use Friday as a catch up day and drop the friday focus.

The best thing I’ve done is getting every one involved in sorting and putting away one basket of laundry after bath time.

Definitely sort a meal plan. Look at a large slow cooker, bbc good food slow cooker spag bol is great. Freeze the extra. Do meals you can prep while the toddler is sleeping and you can shove in the oven after the school run.

Beat me to it!

Also weekend, have a family day where you do stuff together (have a list of stuff, park, pool, library, cafe, local free museum or one place with membership) and then the next day half with DH and you both get a few hours to yourself.

CaliforniaDrumming · 02/04/2022 10:42

Some of my quick meals:
stir fry with ready noodles and ready cut veg
quesadillas with grated cheese and tinned corn
omelettes filled with mushrooms or spinach
quick fried rice with Uncle Ben's fried rice plus peas and egg
batch cook dal and curries and freeze; always have something in the freezer
breakfast for dinner at times

Frozen veg is just as good as fresh.

My standards are definitely lower! I wouldn’t say I was ever houseproud but the state it gets into now makes me feel quite anxious. It’s like in those dreams where you’re running and can’t get anywhere
