What could these blood test results mean?

Results just came back for my daughter. She also goes through periods of incontinence that can last months, and has dark circles under her eyes, always wakes in the night as she is itchy. Farts a lot. She is five.

She had the blood test as they were investigating whether she could have coeliac disease.

Results show...

  • Low red blood cell count
  • High serum urea level
  • High eosinophil count

I have a call with the dr on Tuesday but I'm sitting here panicking.

Low red blood cell count: if this was the only parameter on the full blood count that was out of the ordinary, it means nothing at all. If she also had a low haemoglobin and low haematocrit, then it would imply anaemia.

High serum urea: most common thing by several orders of magnitude is not drinking enough. Can be kidney problems, but with that the creatinine would also be high.

High eosinophil count: if only slightly high, usually means nothing. If very high, most common reasons are either allergies, or worms.
