Neighbours dogs

Some of my neighbours got some dogs a few years ago. Maybe about 3 or 4 years ago.

I love animals and I get on well with many dogs but these dogs were the biggest pricks and cunts ever. The three of them would come out onto the road while you're walking and circle around you. I found them very intimidating. They were silly because when they came out to me I would chat to them about anything and they were ok with that. I still found them intimating. They were awful dogs. It wasn't just me who didn't like these dogs. Other neighbours had the same issue.

Then I don't know where they went to. Definitely since the pandemic started, they weren't to be seen. So I was able to walk more freely again without the dogs coming out to me.

I was out walking today and there were two dogs up ahead of me and sure enough the dogs were back again.

Now I think they weren't gone at all. The family in question owns some farm land and I think the dogs are locked away in a back field and farmshed. That's where I think they are kept but I can't be sure.

These dogs are awful. They are so intimating.

These are dogs are an accident waiting to happen. If it's not me it will be someone else. Not only that, the dogs are locked up in a shed from one day to the next and they probably have plenty of energy building up and they are anti social. It's only a matter of time before they attack someone. To make it worse, the owner of these dogs works in a hardware shop where they sell muzzles. I mean like surely he could get some muzzles and put them on the dogs so they don't bite and attack people.

What do I do about this situation. I never had to complain before to authorities or on animal cruelty before.

There will be plenty of people out walking and running for the summer, no doubt.

I don't own a car and I walk from A to B and I can't just avoid this route because I need to pass it.

What exactly have these dogs done, other than exist while you don't like them?

SantaHat · 01/04/2022 21:33

Ok… for doing what? Just existing?!

Do you know this for sure? Seeing as you actually have no idea where they went for over a year.

There seem to be some enormous leaps of imagination being made here unless there’s more to this story than you’ve put here.

MaudieandMe · 01/04/2022 21:40

If you’re saying that these dogs are left to roam the streets without an owner walking them, then report them to your local dog warden.

It’s not ok to let groups of dogs roam the streets unsupervised.

YoYoYoYoSup · 01/04/2022 22:04

What breed are they?

It's not that I haven't taken a dislike to these dogs. I usually love dogs even dogs that are somewhat considered to be dangerous. I get on very well with dogs.

These dogs that are owned by the neighbours, they come out onto the road and circle me and I find that very intimating. Its only a matter of time before these dogs are going to attack.

I do t know what breed they are. They are mongrels.

This is very strange. Are you somewhere other than the UK?

Notanotherwindow · 01/04/2022 22:36

Contact your local dog warden. They can scan them for chips and try to find where they live. They shouldn't be roaming around loose and unsupervised, even if friendly. For their own safety as much as anything.

SantaHat · 01/04/2022 22:55

Is it a public road or are you on private land?

Again, just because the dogs are there doesn’t meant they’re going to viciously attack anyone. They haven’t for 4 years so not sure why you seem so obsessed that they might suddenly savage you all. Are they barking?! Are they growling?!

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/04/2022 23:07

Are we talking big dogs or small dogs?

HotnSunnyRainbowRoses · 01/04/2022 23:08

Are they collies?
About knee height, sticking up ears, usually black with white necks/chests (but can be any colour + white), have a very scary wolf like stalking way of moving and stare menacingly?

Only you mentioned they circle you and they live on farmland?

If it’s any help, if they are collies, although I do understand how intimidating that behaviour appears they are actually very unlikely to hurt you.

Especially as you say you talk to them and they are okay with that.
If they intended to be aggressive I doubt they’d stop when you talk to them

I'm not suddenly obsessed with them. The dogs weren't seen for a long time. Since about the start of the pandemic.

The dogs bark and growl.

I'm usually a person with things to do and places to be and I'm walking to get from point A to B and the dogs came out on me today and slowed me down considerably. All the dogs circled me and kept walking around in circles. I had to keep calm from them and I kept chatting to them and told them that it's lovely day and I'm only out walking and did you see the lovely pussy cats over there and I kept chatting but truth me told I was afraid and I was about to wee myself in pure nerves. I don't usually get afraid of dogs but these ones. They were circling around me with their big tongues handing out sniffing me and growling.

I was absolutely cornered by these bastards.

It's a public road.

One of them is a collie/sheepdog. The other two are mongrels. The other two would be some sort of cousins to a labrador but not labs and very unkept.

HotnSunnyRainbowRoses · 01/04/2022 23:21

Circling and staring is very common collie/sheepdog behaviour hence why I wondered if they were collies and although it is incredibly intimidating usually the dogs won’t hurt you, they are just trying to stop movement/herd as they’ve been bred to do.

But barking and growling doesn’t sound like herding behaviour, if you are in the UK I’d report them to the dog warden and the police for being ‘dangerously out of control’.

OldTinHat · 01/04/2022 23:23

It's not the dogs, it's their owners. Unless they're strays?

Just phone the dog warden or RSPCA.

Job done.

Malalaa · 01/04/2022 23:27

I don't think I've ever read the word dog so many times in one go.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/04/2022 23:28

labradoodle, golden retriever?

SantaHat · 01/04/2022 23:38

It’s just strange that these dogs are such “cunts” and yet it’s taken you 4 posts and a lot of questions to even mention that they growled and barked at you. We can only ever go on what you write on a thread.

But no dogs should be running around a public road like that so speak to the dog warden/local council. Simple.

jellyjellyjellyjelly · 02/04/2022 00:01

If they hadn't been seen since the start of the pandemic, that timing might actually make sense... yes, lots of people got new pets over lockdown and started going on more dog walks etc., but not everyone. There are also people who, for a variety of reasons, weren't able to care for animals during this time. Perhaps a family member or friend took them in, and now that things have gone back to normal, their owner can take care of them again? I obviously don't know the details but to me this would be a more plausible explanation than them randomly being locked up and then released again over this particular timeline.

LndnGrl · 02/04/2022 07:54

Give them treats but throw them away from you.

Are the lab looking ones small mastiffs?

Mollymalone123 · 02/04/2022 08:32

If you live in the Uk then report them to the dog warden-all dogs are now legally required to have their dogs under control-which these clearly aren’t-and if they are aggressive towards you then even more reason to report them.

Fraaahnces · 02/04/2022 08:36

You need to call your local council/dog warden, etc… not only are they roaming as a pack and potentially dangerous to kids, etc, they are at risk of being hit by cars.

Xpologog · 02/04/2022 09:09

The owner/s are the problem.
If you’re in the UK dogs cannot be allowed to wander.
By law they have to be chipped and the chip registered. They are also supposed to wear a collar with ID of ownership.
Google dog warden ( your area) and report.
Or email local council and report.
Don’t fantasise — they might attack, they might do this or that. They are dogs allowed loose on the street day after day— that is the wrong-doing of the owner.
If you are concerned about their condition you can also contact the RSPCA but tbh if the dog warden is concerned they’ll call them in.
