Just don't want to be too flash or too tight so looking for an average figure I guess

£15

I’m very mindful about spending too much, we can afford it but others can’t. I worry about the pressure it places on other families. It’s getting ridiculous that parents spend £15-20 on a child when they have 15-20 kids attending. That’s far too much for one child.

I was aghast at the collection of expensive press for my child’s last birthday. It’s just too much.

I feel our children are very spoilt compared to when we were kids. We didn’t get presents from friends until secondary school.

£5 for any old kid in primary, £10 for best friends.

£10 for secondary.

I always went for £5-£10 worth of stuff. I don’t know if lockdown has made everyone a bit more appreciative of being able to leave their kids at a party for a couple of hours but for my ds’s 6th party recently we hired a hall and invited his whole class plus a few kids from outside school. About 30 kids turned up and loads of the presents were £15-£20 worth, quite a few cards with a tenner and a couple of bags of sweets or similar. It was ridiculous. He got more in total spent on him on his party presents than he did on his birthday and Christmas presents combined. It was way too much.

I agree @HollowedOut it’s getting out of hand where I live. The parties are also usually fairly expensive organised fun.

Can’t imagine how shit the low income or single parent families feel.

Just today we had a non uniform day- you had to pay a £1 per item.

Some people are so tone deaf to the struggles people are facing. The food bank around the corner from school and there’s a long queue of young families every Saturday morning so they must be blind! Or don’t care.

Usually around £20

£10 primary. £20 voucher secondary, but at secondary he only gets invited to 2 or 3 friends parties each year.
