Food and exercise help needed

Why can't I do what I need to do?
I'm desperate to lose weight and be healthy.
If I eat too much sugar I feel shakey and starving hungry which is horrible yet I still do it.
My husband goes to the gym all the time, he looks great for it and he feels great too.
I just feel really silly and self conscious if I try to exercise and cos I'm on anti depressants I have no get up and go or motivation to do anything.

I'm in such a rut, tired all the time.

I know what I should be eating and it works if I follow it but how do I find willpower and how do I stop boredom eating?

Totally and utterly fed up. :(

Thank you.
Definitely only pre diabetic, I get tested regularly and low carb doesn't make me tired. It gives me more energy!
I am insulin resistant I do have a blood sugar monitor.
I know what I need to do I just struggle to do it!!

What happened when you gave up carbs before, @Helpmplease? It sounds like you managed to resist the cravings then? Can you identify what's changed?

@Everydaydayisaschoolday

I'm 60 and I've been overweight for about 10 years. In October I found out I had high blood pressure so took steps to correct it. I cut out processed food apart from a couple of meals out a week. I aim for 6/9 portions of fruit and veg a day and I've gone very low carb/low fat. I still drink alcohol 3/4 days a week. In just 6 months I've lost over 2 stone and am now a healthy BP, weight and BMI.

This was never about losing weight for me. It was all about the BP but the sheer joy of dropping from a size 16 to a size 10 has been exhilarating. I never thought I'd be this size again and the pleasure is increased by the knowledge there hasn't been one single second of calorie counting or weighing. It's all been driven by considering what is good and healthy.

Incidentally, what has worked well for me is not insisting on three meals a day but having a late brunch and early dinner instead. Those two meals seem enough and I can fit them around a social schedule. I also
If I get hungry outside those times I have healthy snacks like humus and/or an egg or an apple with cheese or a skimmed milk hot chocolate.

Have PMd you!

Seeing friends and walking the dog are 2 very good things you are already doing.
When you walk the dog, try upping your pace to turn it from a stroll into exercise.
If you feel self conscious at the gym, do some work outs at home. There are so many free options out there. Start with some stretching/ gentle beginners yoga first . Try and think of it as something you just have to do everyday (10 mins is enough at first) ... like work.... not something optional. It will become a habit after a while.
Re eating/ sugar, I have no suggestions as it's something I have never mastered!!! It's hard. It takes motivation, accountability and an iron will. Maybe try buying really nice prepared fruit instead of choc/ biscuits???
