Nursery vs childminder

My LO is in nursery but I am not sure if they are keeping an eye on the basics. They have great pictures of activities etc but Iv seen him upset through the peeking window (I know this can happen) and he recently was soaking wet due to a very full nappy when I turned up early (how often is this the case throughout the day!) they weren’t sure which was his dummy, where his socks were and he was sent home with no notes of his food etc (all this was within 1.5 days of his new class). I don’t want to move him from a very good nursery if he is happy and it’s the best place but can’t bear the thought of him not being looked after properly. Are childminders a better option as they are maybe less manic / personal?! I don’t feel like I can say anything as they are very defensive and I don’t want LO suffering!

Everyone will have had different experiences and very different opinions. I wanted a childminder for my son as a baby but there aren’t many in my area and I didn’t like the two I visited. Settled for a nursery that was nice enough and I knew he was cared for and safe but I was never entirely happy for similar reasons to yours. After the first lockdown he was 3 and moved to mornings in a school nursery and I managed to get a afternoon space with a childminder I liked. Both the new nursery and the childminder are brilliant. The nursery is the perfect preschool environment and the childminder is like another grandparent figure. For us this is the perfect childcare and we are both much happier.

There’s advantages and disadvantages to both, it really depends on the standard of the childcare settings available to you and what your child needs.
