Why does Calpol seem so much more comforting than paracetamol?

Ds and I both have a sore throat. He's gone to bed with calpol and a hot water bottle. Me going to bed with 2 paracetamol tablets and a hot water bottle somehow doesn't sound nearly so comforting. Is it the bright pink that makes the difference? The massive price tag compared to asda own brand paracetamol? I think I'll take calpol instead.

I remember Panadol from my childhood. It didn't taste bad but as an adult I had a soft drink that had the exact flavour..,yuck!!

It tastes good and also when you’re at the age to have calpol it’s someone else doing it all isn’t it. Filling your hot water bottle, slogging out to Asda for calpol, tucking you up in bed etc. That’s what you really want when you’re unwell. Whereas when I’m unwell I often still have to go to work, look after kids and everything!

I fondly remember being given Lucozade as a small child when i was ill, i had tonsillitis regularly and the lucozade must have kept my fluids up. I tried it again years later and it's not the same anymore. Seems to be marketed as a sports drink these days. The comforting taste was lovely

We had disprin or something dissolved in a tablespoon of water. It was vile. We never got calpol as kids.
I'm still in bed, haven't decided if I feel any better yet for taking my calpol last night

I’d forgotten about benylin I used to love it! I don’t remember being given calpol as a child I might be a bit old but DS loves it.

I'd never heard of calpol until I had kids. Mine are teenagers now and prefer to take a paracetamol tablet.

This thread has made me think about the amount of Calpol I've given my two DC over the years. I can't imagine I was given anywhere near that much pain relief as a child. Calpol didn't exist as far as I am aware but I do remember junior disprin being given but only if we were really unwell.

The one medicine I can really remember liking is benalyn and the one we hated was milk of magnesia which our parents seemed to offer whenever we made noises about being too ill to go to school.

I had a stomach operation a few years back and wasn't allowed tablets I was given liquid paracetamol which was basically the orange calpol, its vile, I ended up going without pain relief!
