Steralisation or snip

We have been together over 15 years, ive just turned 30 and dh is 32, we have 2 children and we dont want anymore.

Weve looked into both vasectomy and steralisation. We just want whats most likely to work, i know me having the procedure is more invasive but it seems from what ive read to be more effective. A relative of mines vasectomy didnt work and dh has read a small number of men suffer from an ache of various degrees for a long time after and i dont want him to have to suffer that after.

Its not a case of well ive had to go through child birth, he can do that, we just want whats going to be the most effective.

Has anyone had a steralisation that HASNT worked or just an opion on our situation.

DH had a vasectomy - best thing ever. Was a bit sore but drove himself home after and didn't take long to feel fine.

Getting sterilised is quite an op, when I had it done it was GA and took me a good while to recover. I also reacted to the painkillers which led to a few days in hospital.
Have you discussed this with GP?

That's unfortunate, but rarely the case for most women. I had mine done 20+ years ago, under GA, home a few hours later and almost back to normal the next day. I've had 14 major surgeries and that one was a breeze.

I was sterilised 11 years ago 3 nights in hospital 3 weeks before I was back at work full time in admin role.

Was supposed to be 6 hours discharge at which point I was still in recovery on a morphine drip screaming the place down! Childbirth was a doddle on comparison 🤷🏽‍♀️

I was steralised at 31, was told horrendous stories before how it would effect me. No problems at all

Good luck OP, the only way sterilisation is approved in my area is if there is a risk to life should the woman fall pregnant.

I’ve been trying for years, currently saving to go private.

I had my tubes removed as part of an op to remove a cyst & one ovary by laparoscopy, I had it done on a Thursday night & was well enough to go to an event at ds school the afternoon after& was back on the school run by the following Monday. I didn't need any pain relief, just took Rennie Deflatine to get rid of the gas & arnica tablets for the bruising. Other than the general anaesthetic female sterilisation is safe if you would choose to have that to ensure that you will never get pregnant again & if in the unlikely event you were to split up & start a new relationship you definitely didn't want any more children.

Ha, DH is booked for a vasectomy because I've already had my genitals sewn back together. It just seems fair.

I had my last depo injection in April. I was sterilised with clips in July. It took until the following April for my periods to return from the depo. By the September I found out I was pregnant with an ectopic. The tube ruptured and they offered to take the second tube which I accepted.

I had a sterilization 7 years ago, about a year after my youngest was born. The anasthetist was very heavy handed and it took me a few days to get over the GA but no problems from the actual op. The peace of mind it gave was huge. I know there's a risk of failure but hormones had some unpleasant side affects.
