Ah yes that’s the site of the chocolate mine if I remember correctly. Excellent choice.

Ingleton waterfalls walk....stunning! white scar caves and the viaduct. also the 3 peaks for yorkshire 3 peaks are there on the doorstep too

we drove out to lake district and climbed scarfell pike as well

oops...just realised we stayed in Burton Lonsdale....few miles down the road!! not kirkby!

Ideally placed between lakes and north part of Yorkshire dales- the more remote parts of the dales. Stunning scenery wherever you go. Forest of bowland in Lancashire also beautiful. If you’re into birding there is Leighton moss and the whole area along coast at arneside and silver dale.
As someone’s already posted the ingleton falls walk is lovely. But there’s also going up ingleton, ( genuine mountain) seeing gaping gill and doing the caves on the way up. You’re pretty near a good drive through nidderdale, butter tubs to Hawes and wesleydale cheese. Or go further south for malham cove, limestone pavement and gordale scar

Into the lakes you can take the real steamer on coniston, visit Beatrix potters house, or take scenic drives over some of passes into ullswater etc

To be honest…to much to do

Have fun and hope the weather holds

The walk along the river to Devil's Bridge is nice and there's lots of nice places to eat, Plato's seems to the overall favourite. Are you looking for walks further afield from Kirkby Lonsdale itself?

ChrissyPlummer · 30/03/2022 22:49

One of my favourite places! We’re lucky that we can go for a day trip. We always walk along the river to Devils Bridge then back on a circular route. Most eating places are dog friendly. We like the Royal Hotel. As pp said, the chocolate shop is a must!

Brilliant thank you. We know the lakes well but have only ever driven through this bit.

The chocolate shop (which also does interesting alcohol) - I dream of it!

Ruskin's View on a bright day

Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery for a pint - just up from the chocolate shop on opposite side of the road. The Hairy Bikers visitied it last year in their Northern food series

Breathtaking countryside around Ingleton

I'm so envious of you, I love it around there

Just back. Loved it. Update though is that it was pretty much shut up in the week. The Royal was open (really liked it and wised we'd stayed there) and the Sun and a couple of other places in the evening. But shops/coffee shops all struggling with staff and some only open on weekends.

Lovely walks though and thanks for the recommendation of Ingleton Falls - I imagine its heaving on a weekend but was lovely in the week.

It's super dog friendly.
