Slightly grim, long forgotten about period pants... how would you wash?

I have recently started using washable period pants and pads. Normally I tend to pop them in the wash within 24 hours but I just realised I forgot to wash a few pairs worn at the weekend and they have been sat in wetbag lurking Confused

Anyone have any tips for getting them disinfected after so long! Normally I just wash them at 30 degrees for 30 mins with a laundry pod (like I would anything else) but given these lot are a bit grim I feel like they need a good disinfect but I don't want to ruin them! They are modibodis which have rather specific instructions about being gentle I think. I know it's a bit silly but i am a bit worried about getting TSS or something from them!!

Should I pop some oxi action stuff on? Or give them two goes in the machine? Not sure what kills germs but is still gentle.

Thanks and sorry if it's a silly question I am terrible with laundry!!

Try powdered oxygen bleach (from all the eco shops).

If it’s dried on blood soak in cold water and keep wringing and rinsing until the water runs clear. Then wash as normal.
I’ve been using reusable pads for many years and stopped keeping them wet really soon as I found they stank if kept wet.

You could add a little bit of white vinegar to neutralise odour.

Cold water soak first. Then wash as usual

Cold water soak. Then wash in vinegar and detergent.

wtfwasthatmate · 30/03/2022 22:16

You guys Confused

DappledThings · 30/03/2022 22:30

I would just chuck them in at 30 as normal and think nothing more of it

moanyhole · 30/03/2022 22:40

Dame as dabbled . Put them in the wash as usual. They'll be fine

ThomasinaGallico · 30/03/2022 23:15

Honestly? By all means try a bio wash and soak, but if that doesn’t work I’d bin them. Not worth the grief.

Eachdaygoesby · 30/03/2022 23:20

I'd soak in cold water for a while with half a cap full of Dettol (unless instructions say otherwise) then wash as normal, then dry in sunlight.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 30/03/2022 23:24

Confused I'd just sling them in the wash and probably do a longer wash with a bit more detergent?

Why all the handwringing about potentially binning them?? What do you think might happen apart from there being stains?

Hugasauras · 30/03/2022 23:24

From this weekend? It's only Wednesday. I'd just wash them normally!

TooManyPJs · 30/03/2022 23:25

Why do you wash everything for only 30mins?

Hugasauras · 30/03/2022 23:25

30mins wash doesn't seem like a normal wash cycle though, that sounds like a quick wash? Do them on a proper wash cycle.

Thethingswedoforlove · 30/03/2022 23:26

I assumed they might have been there a month or so! Just put them on for a longer wash than usual. They will be fine!
