We are off on holidays in June... Lilo help needed..

DH retires this year and we are also thirty years married so we are pushing the boat out and have a villa and pool all to ourselves, historically any shared pools we had, had a no inflatables rule.

So lovely people I need help with a lilo....

We have enough luggage allowance to buy it here and bring it with us, can anyone please recommend a type of lilo, they have moved on quite a bit from the last one I bought on our honeymoon thirty years ago. #old

There appear to be armchairs and what look like gaming chairs and a water diffuser whatever that maybe.

All help gratefully accepted.

TIA

It's a how long is a piece of string rule. I presume inflatable pizza slices and unicorns are out? Do you need a drinks holder?

JetBlackSteed · 30/03/2022 16:29

How will you inflate them if you take with you?
You'll need an air pump.

minipie · 30/03/2022 16:30

Massive inflatables take hours to blow up

Consider whether you want your bum/legs in the water (chair style) or not (lilo style). If it’s somewhere really hot then being partly in the water can be nicer

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 30/03/2022 16:30

We usually buy them when we get there and get whatever shop we get them from to inflate them.

Northernsoullover · 30/03/2022 16:31

I'd get it there. I've always been able to buy ones that are already inflated abroad. I think shops will inflate them for you.

NeedleNoodle3 · 30/03/2022 16:33

I like to choose them there and get them inflated.

ThreeWiseWomen · 30/03/2022 16:36

I can bring the airpump.

A drinks holder is a must, this is our second young person free holiday, there will be wine for breakfast. Grin

I think chair style is probably the best, it won't be massively hot, but if we are lucky it should hit about 38 Celsius.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Go to somewhere like Wilkos and get a couple of cheap lilos to take with you. Once out there, check the local shops for any big fancy ones and get those too!

Take some waterproof fabric plasters with you too, they're ideal for puncture repairs on inflatables!

minipie · 30/03/2022 16:42

“Get it there” people, what do you do at the end of the holiday? Really hope you don’t bin it.

I presume it is binned. Or perhaps passed on to someone else?

Only bin it if it's beyond repair, otherwise leave it there for future guests. In most villas with pools there's often inflatables that have been left from previous guests.

What do you class as mega hot if 38°c isn't Shock

I'm in the buy it there camp, definitely don't waste luggage space on them... Even if they're small and we'll packed on the way out you'll never get them back in on the way home.

emmathedilemma · 30/03/2022 16:53

Aldi middle aisle usually have them once the summer arrives. I bought big donut ones from there a few years ago for about £5 and they were surprisingly comfortable to lounge in!

Canyoujustgotobedplease · 30/03/2022 16:56

I'd get it there too, we took some on our last holiday as the kids saw then when we were shopping and really wanted them but they sold all the same ones there, was a bit of a waste of luggage space.
It's an unwritten rule that you leave them by the pool when you leave or directly give them to someone else.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 30/03/2022 17:00

Just get it there, you'll have more choice probably as half the shops will be dedicated to them! The shop will blow them up, and when you're done you just give it away to someone, we usually give them to a family with kids

NeedleNoodle3 · 30/03/2022 17:01

I always leave them for future guests if they aren’t broken.

thisplaceisweird · 30/03/2022 17:01

Agree with getting it there. Also get some of those foam noodles, nice to float about on when you want to be more submerged.

Roselilly36 · 30/03/2022 17:27

Buy one there, they will pump it up for you, and then leave it there for the next person.

TheFlis12345 · 30/03/2022 17:55

Decent ones are heavier than they look while not inflated. I would buy when you get there.

worriedatthistime · 30/03/2022 17:59

@minipie we normally pass ours on to another family

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/03/2022 17:59

Just buy it there, not really normal to take them .

Nelliephant1 · 30/03/2022 18:51

It also depends on the size of the pool. We've rented villas all over the world and what's a proper swimming pool in one house can be a plunge pool in another. Buy when you're there.
