Alton Towers for beginners

We are going on Monday. First time. Is there anything we need to be aware of? Now, I know it's marmite but we have promised the DC that we are going.

The park is open 10-4 so not long. Is it best to go to the furthest away ride and work forward?

DC at 16 and 14.

Can I just ask about taking own food/drinks in a rucksack? Yes or no. Thankyou.

You can do. There’s storage for bags on all rides. Depends if you can be arsed to carry it all day. We factor in eating. Decent coffee shops with sandwiches etc as well as usual fast food junk.

We went last week on a weekday - got there for 8.45, very quiet (well, quiet for Alton Towers!!) mostly all day. Only rides we didn’t do were Thirteen (broken down for 2+ hours) and Hex (closed all day). But we did Smiler twice - first ride, and because the queue looked short after we’d done Oblivion. Absolutely no need for fast passes at all.

App is great. Get the teens to research and plan.

If any of you have any additional needs (or others reading) you can get a ride access pass, you have go have documentation to show the impact that queueing has. Also they allow carers in for free.

In regards to taking food, loads of people do it. There is alot that take hot dogs in flasks and bread rolls and make their own hotdogs there.

If you're likely to go to any other Merlin attractions add up the costs and compare to the passes, it could work out cheaper.

You'll need to pay for parking, they do have blue badge parking.

Thanks for the advice about bag storage. I am taking 2 teens so not really worrying about carrying stuff all day. Will definitely buy coffee/lunch. More thinking about snacks and drinks. Thankyou!

For carers and ride access check the website for what documentation you need

We've done a combination of NHS discount and Kelloggs to get tickets. Prepaid parking too.

This is definitely a one off for us!

I'm not the op so this is still useful info for everyone else. Thankyou.
