Need a work shirt for big bust

Any larger busted ladies recommend where I can buy a nice well fitted white shirt?

I'm an 34 F and need a shirt for an interview, it doesn't have to be super formal plain white as it's a marketing agency but something that will look appropriate with trousers and a blazer.

I usually would try bravissimo but they've stopped selling clothes now Sad

Ah op I have the same issue, this is my specialist subject Grin and there are a few solutions out there :

  • Personally I find that M& S often has a reasonably good selection of white cotton shirts with a bit of stretch in them with fairly generous sizing around the bust, you have to try a few styles on and in fact I can't link for some reason but type in "fuller bust collection" in their website and some suitable styles should pop up
  • failing that, look for something like a white long-sleeved polo shirt made from fine stretch cotton jersey or ribbed jersey instead of a traditional cotton shirt instead
www.peterhahn.co.uk/efixelle-polo-shirt-with-3-4-length-sleeves-navy-822935.html although that example is not a good sleeve length for under a blazer
  • other solutions: if you have time, buy a good quality white cotton double-cuffed work shirt in a slightly larger size then usual that fits on the bust and have it altered on the shoulder or darted to fit your shape
  • buy a good quality stretch cotton white shirt and wear it open at the front with a deep v with a white camisole/stretch vest that's suitable for office wear, under it
  • buy a stretch white cotton shirt and sew up the button placket under the first two buttons down to the bottom of the shirt, so it doesn't gape at the bust, and take it on and off over your head
  • whichever shirt you buy, make sure it is cut with a nice waist to it and has a curvy shape rather than a large rectangular boxy oversized cut which will make your bust look even bigger
  • wear a fine good quality sleeveless jumper in a dark colour over your shirt and under a jacket or cardigan to look like a waistcoat and hold you in (the disadvantages of this are that you might get too hot or it might look too bulky if you are not careful)
  • if you look on Peter Hahn UK you can buy white cotton shirt collars by themselves without the body or sleeves of the shirt itself:
www.peterhahn.co.uk/peter-hahn-blouse-collar-in-100-linen-white-360308.html and you can wear that under a fine v neck jumper. Obviously not suitable under a blazer Grin

Good luck with your interview!

Meant to add that the trick about having big noticeable cuffs is that they elongate the arm and draw the eye down and away from bust area, so it balances out the look if that makes sense.

And don't be afraid to add long line necklaces or pendant (as long as they are the right length so they don't hang off bust "shelf") as they can mimic a deep v shape and divide up the bust area.

Hawes and Curtis do shirts for hourglasses in their fitted range (or semi-fitted if you prefer a slightly less tight fitted shirt). I'm a 32gg and wear a 14 from there. Excellent quality and good range of types.

TheFlis12345 · 30/03/2022 09:50

I am also a 32GG and have some lovely shirts from Thomas Pink that fit well. Though if it’s a marketing role do you really need a formal shirt? I work in the industry and a different top would be fine.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/03/2022 09:56

I agree that you don't need a shirt. Just wear a nice top (like a t shirt but nicer/smarter) under your jacket.

Mango do nice "flowy" blouses.

They've stopped doing clothes.

A nice blouse type top will be fine with a blazer over it, OP. You don't need a shirt unless you really want one.

Thanks for all the advice. It's really helpful

It's a director level position and not typically creative so I'm not going totally corporate but wanted something that came across as serious, definitely would be more casual for day to day it'll be the first in-person interview I've been to for a while.

I'll have a look into some of your suggestions.

These guys make shirts in a range of different shapes, I can’t speak to the ones for a larger bust but they have an inside button that stops the shirt gaping, they’re really well made and gorgeous prints! www.genderfreeworld.com/
