4yo birthday present ideas

Help please! It’s my sons 4th birthday in a few weeks and I have no idea what to get him as a present. He’s only asked for one small thing which I’ve bought but struggling for other ideas. He has a 1 year old brother and between them they already have lots of toys, but he’s maybe starting to outgrow lots of them so this is a good chance for something new.

Toys that we have and he plays with a lot:

Magnatiles (one set and the wheel base - maybe an extension pack?)
Brio/wooden train track
Play kitchen
Mud kitchen and playhouse in garden
Kiddizoom camera
Duplo

Would love to know of any well loved toys for 4 year olds? Smile

does he have a scooter?
lots of smaller presents isnt a bad thing- make it kits, clothes (i.e. ones with characters he likes on), books, colouring, kinetic sand, lego

I've spent years bulking out birthdays/Christmas but honestly if he's asked for something in particular then he'll be happy with that - mine tell me they appreciate the other stuff but it wouldn't bother them not to get so we now do an asked for gift and they get to choose what we do on the day and go out for dinner.

Scooter or bike
Football
Board game (Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, one of the Orchard Games etc)
Books
Toy garage for cars (if he likes cars as well as his trains)
Toy doctor's kit
Dressing-up clothes
If he likes animals then toy animals/dinosaurs/farm set
Small things like a whistle, torch, sticker books, bouncy ball etc

Dressing up clothes is a great idea! Thanks.

He has a scooter and a balance bike but he doesn’t love them.

Kits is a good idea as well, we did a candle making one last year which he loved and I’d forgotten all about that.

Interested what age people started Lego from?

Marble run?

Books.
A more simple lego kit that you can do with/for him to see how he likes it? My DC moved from duplo to lego around this age.

DS loved one of those little torches that you can put slides into to project pictures from.

Also, I found 4-5 to be the peak dinosaur years so maybe a book and model?

My dd had proper lego age 2.5 obviously supervised (as elder ones had it.)
Rather than specific sets get the box with just random bits ane let his imagination run wild. Altho they normally have an ideas booklet in there too for like, a house, car, tree etc.
Over the years add to it.

We have a crazy amount as have a 16yr old who out grew it. A 9 and 4 year old who love it.

My just turned 4 year old is now obsessed with Lego. You get Lego city sets, which are slightly simpler and for younger children. And someone bought him a box of mixed Lego - so all his Lego tractors etc are now adorned with flowers/extra doors/a lighthouse. It's very sweet. They will play with it for yeeears, so I think worth it.

Imaginext sets are good for that age - we have a batcave set, and some goodies and baddies. Still played with at 8. Can then add vehicles and other charaters for xmas, other birthdays. Also quite safe for younger sibling as mostly big bits. Orchard games and puzzles also good for 4 year olds.

This is a bit different but what about a doll and buggy. Honestly every boy who comes to our house loves them. Just the cheap £7 buggy from asda.

If you have the space what about a tuff tray. Both kids will get a lot from it and can be a sand tray and water tray. Deb underneath, trains or Lego on top etc.

Definitely a dressing up chest with a few cool outfits that he'd like. DD & all of her friends absolutely loved our dress up box at that age, especially the boys. I had many a boy princess running & twirling around our house, who are now strapping young men. Friends same age DSs also loved their dress up chests at this age & it made gifts easy for a few years too as you could buy more outfits

Lazydaisydaydream · 29/03/2022 11:44

Ok definitely some Lego!

He already has a doll which he played with a lot when his brother was born (changing nappy, rocking to sleep when I did etc) which was very sweet but he doesn’t play with it that much now. We had to hide the toy pram as the dog was terrified of it Blush

There are some super ideas on this thread, thanks so much everyone!!
