Anyone drive a diesel Renault Captur? Just wanting opinions on what it's like. Is it spacious for a 4 person 1 large dog family?! Thanks 😊

I have a petrol one and love it!

It works for us with 4 people but I'm not sure about a large dog too.

We've used it to go on holiday so you can get a lot in the boot, and you can get a surprising amount in it to go to the tip but I don't think it would have suited us a few years ago with luggage and a pushchair.

I like it because the internal size is big compared to the outside dimensions. I looked at much bigger cars that had smaller boots and felt more cramped inside.

My friend has dogs and she uses some sort of estate car for the bigger boot space for a cage.

Thank you for your reply. Oh that's good to hear it's got a large boot I was worried about that. So it's spacious inside? Is the back quite spacious too for two kids one with a booster seat?

Me! I love mine. Ideally I’d go up to the next model but I cart teenagers around a lot. It is a squish for three teens in the back. Boot is ok if you take the false bottom out.

I have a petrol one plus one kid and a large dog! I love my Captur

I would say, if you are tall family there is probably not enough leg room in the back/front depending on how you have it configured - e.g. if you slide the back seats forward to make more boot space, either the people in the back will get squashed legs or the people in the front.

However, I think the boot is big enough for most large dogs without needing to slide the rear seats forward. Also, depending on how large the dog is, you may be able to get away with having the shelf in place in the boot - very hand for storing things under (e.g. bags, picnic items etc). But you may have to take that out so the dog can stand up in the boot. I have a greyhound - so quite tall, needs the shelf out to be able to stand up.

If you're considering a diesel then you're talking about the last model rather than the current one. It was based on the Renault Clio IV which sits on the Renault B platform from the mid Noughties and, no matter how clever the packaging, that's still a nearly 20 year old supermini platform and it's just not going to give you a big car. The rear seat slides back and forth so that you can trade off rear legroom for boot space, but you can't have lots of both at the same time.

If the dog is big and the kids get bigger, then you'd probably be better off with the Dacia Duster if you need an SUV. It sits on the same platform, but simplified and lengthened to give more interior space, has the same engine and gearbox, all the same tech inside. It was also available with four wheel drive, unlike the Captur which was only ever front wheel drive.

If the dog is elderly or is in any danger of getting old, then you'd probably be better off with a Dacia Logan. Again, same stretched Clio underpinnings as the Duster but it's an estate car - much bigger boot, much closer to the ground. We've got one with the 1.5 dCi diesel engine and love it; we're actually a bit gutted that it's out of production now as we would probably buy a second one.

I recently got rid of my petrol one. Worst decision I've ever made. It was economical, roomy in the back, nice to drive (and felt high up so to speak, good for me as I live rurally and like to see over hedges etc what's coming). Boot a nice size-(our dogs used to ride in it comfortably without the parcel shelf). I liked the thing where you could take the seat covers off to wash them. And I liked the dashboard display for the radio and heating etc
I miss it.

That said, in the course of getting a new car I test drove the Peugeot equivalent which is I think is the 3005 (or 2005) forget which. Similar size to Captur. Loved that too.

(Too small for us as we need 7 seats hence changing car in the first place).

@thefootballcoacheswife thank you, so many positive reviews! Sounds ideal. I'm excited now 😄

I have one. Love it and it's higher driving position. It's basically a Clio on stilts!

Lindy2 · 29/03/2022 15:58

My petrol one feels solid and roomy to me.

I bought it 2 years ago and I've been very happy with it.

Bagelsandbrie · 29/03/2022 16:14

We had one and it was nice to drive (very nippy!) and I found it easy to park etc but we got rid of it in the end because the kids felt squashed in the back in comparison to the Kia we had beforehand and we didn’t feel we had enough room in the boot for all the shizzle we pack for Haven a few times a year. We got a Kia Sportage instead and I prefer that all round generally. But I miss the whoosh factor of the Renault!

CornedBeef451 · 29/03/2022 19:29

The back seat is pretty big, I can get two preteens and a small adult in the back but we are all very short so I don't know about leg room.

It's not as big as my old Picasso. I could get anything in that but it fell apart and had to be let go.

ENoeuf · 30/03/2022 09:48

It has a really annoying storage box between the front seats that people in the bag kick/nudge and it falls off repeatedly.
