Got covid. Been feeling a bit grim but coping. Lying in bed and suddenly did a big wracking cough that forced me upright, then another then my breathing kind of locked up - couldn't breathe in, couldn't cough, was really panicking. DP and I both sitting up in bed with lights on now. Don't really feel safe to lie down.

Plus - my god - my chest and shoulders bloody ache now

I remember from the beginning, reading about hospitals lying people on their front, which seemed to help recovery??

daisydalrymple · 28/03/2022 23:44

Sorry website crashed then. Am not medically trained and have no info on this. Just a thought to try out if it helps. But worth giving Nhs direct a call about what happened in case you need admitting??

Maybe pack some stuff for the hospital just in case...

I might try lying on my front. Am absolutely shattered. DP has reluctantly passed out now (he's the only one without covid so he's been running around after us) but he's still holding my hand. I haven't coughed again since that so I'll try lying on my front and getting some sleep. Thanks for the tip

I had that numerous times when I had whooping cough a few years ago, it's terrifying. 💐

Valhalla17 · 28/03/2022 23:59

Yes lie on front or prop yourself up with loads of pillows so you're a bit more elevated. Maybe get a diffuser from amazon with some eucalyptus or lavender oil. That helped me. Get well soon.

Xpologog · 29/03/2022 00:06

Don’t know if this’ll help with Covid but I get costochondritis and it helps. If you have two hot water bottles put one on your chest ( maybe wrap in a towel so you don’t burn) and one against your back while you sit back against as many pillows as you have. Helps to relax your chest muscles.
Hope you feel better soon but any more breathing troubles and it’s 111 or ambulance.

romany4 · 29/03/2022 00:07

I had to sleep propped up for weeks.
I just couldn't breathe if I laid flat or on my side.
Hope you feel better soon

Summerfun54321 · 29/03/2022 00:19

Do you have one of those pulse oximeters to reassure you? They’re very good.

Lifeispassingby · 29/03/2022 00:34

DH has covid- tested positive yesterday and he is the same, cannot move an inch otherwise it sets him coughing. He is in agony with aching chest and shoulders etc. We’ve managed to prop him up either lots of pillows and cushions etc and the coughing has eased. He’s not very comfortable and it’s hard to sleep upright but he can’t sleep lying down for coughing anyway. Get well soon xx

That sounds horrendous. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all. DD7 still testing positive but DS thankfully well enough and 9ld enough to get himself to school so I have fed the beasts, waved a tired DP off to work and settled on the sofa with a cat and Bridgerton. DD will be quite happy to watch unlimited cartoons and cut pieces of paper into ever smaller pieces of paper all day while I wheeze gently and enjoy all the sparkly frocks.

Thank you for the company and comfort overnight. Oxygen readings are 98 so it would appear i shall live to fight another day
