An antidote to the Rock/Smith Oscars bollocks- Lady Gaga and Liza Minelli

Now I am not a fan of Lady Gaga- I listen to punk and drum n bass but this cropped up on my Twitter feed so I decided to share it as an an antidote to the millions of posts about the fucking men being fucking men.
It's really sweet.

Then underneath there was a clip of Lady Gaga and June Brown on Graham Norton which I've never seen cos I don't watch it and again....what a lovely person.

Greg Davies "Am I on drugs?!" reaction really made me laugh because that's how I felt watching it.

Will post both below.

I mean..... If gaga had been a carer for my Nan I would have been bloody happy.... So...

As an aside I never thought I'd be here defending/making nice posts on the Internet about bloody Lady Gaga so this is weird!! ShockConfused

Liza Minelli looks very frail nowadays xx

HeechulOppa · 28/03/2022 22:23

Why presume Liza didn’t want to do it? Just because she’s older and frailer doesn’t mean she doesn’t have agency! In fact, Liza strikes me as someone who would a) want to stay involved in showbiz and b) kick anyone’s ass who told her what to do.

Plus Liza and Gaga are friends in real life.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/03/2022 22:41

Lady gaga does seem very lovely.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/03/2022 22:48

That’s a great antidote to all that masculine nonsense. Thank you for posting you soppy old punk you! Grin

OstrichFeathers · 28/03/2022 23:03

Great videos, thanks for sharing

@SausagePourHomme

i follow houseinhabit on instagram and she has a different take on this; namely that the oscars put liza minelli in a shitty position when she is not well enough to present, and that it's a staged opportunity for lady gaga to self publicise.
There were also plenty saying the shit show was 'set up' for publicity too.

Maybe they both were, neither were or either one was, who knows. I do know who it shows in a good light and who in a bad one either way.

meloncolic · 28/03/2022 23:41

Watch:

LG Julie Andrew’s tribute medley with JA at end

LG singing star spangled banner for biden inauguration (just - she really can BELT IT)

LG talking about creativity and saying no.

She’s very talented.

hazelnutpraline · 29/03/2022 07:23

I love lady Gaga, she is so talented and seems like a really decent person

longwayoff · 29/03/2022 07:47

I'm another unexpected fan. Not interested in dreary self-promoting Oscars, ditto pretty much anyone from pop world but I've got to make an exception for Lady Gaga who seems to be a rather nice, talented and thoughtful woman. I'm surprised I even know who she is.

FriedaMer · 29/03/2022 07:58

Thanks so much for sharing that OP. Never seen that June Brown clip 🥰As you say a real antidote to all the posts about Smith and Rock.

LYSHB · 29/03/2022 08:31

Gaga IS lovely, I’ve met her a few times. She is utterly genuine.

MrsBerthaRochester · 29/03/2022 08:51

Google the clip of her giving caitlin jenner the brush off. Not so nice.

AffIt · 29/03/2022 09:47

A journalist friend of mine interviewed Lady Gaga in Berlin about five years ago and absolutely sang her praises - she said she is one of the nicest, most genuine people she has ever met (and my friend has worked in the music press for a lot of years - she has a highly-tuned bullshit / fakery detector).

I think she's great.

Doubleraspberry · 29/03/2022 09:51

Caitlin Jenner appears to be a pain in the arse though.

If you watch this film, about Tony Bennett performing with dementia, you will (a) cry a lot and (b) like Gaga even more.

HRTQueen · 29/03/2022 09:53

So she does a few nice things that we see on camera

No one jumps on a bandwagon and makes it about themselves more than Lady Gaga.

If there this publicity to be had she is there squeezing her way in telling her story or of her sadness or making sure cameras catch her displays of kindness

I can see where they’re coming from, but I think it was great. LM had the opportunity to decline if she felt she was uncomfortable being on stage.

I don’t think age or illness should mean organisers avoid asking older people who have contributed so much to the industry, and are still keen to be involved. They don’t just disappear after they hit 80, until they reappear in the In Memorium segment a few years later.

Rockbird · 29/03/2022 10:05

Totally agree with HeechulOppa. Liza might be physically more frail but she has never struck me as the sort of person who wouldn't make her feelings known. Showbusiness has been her life, why wouldn't it be still?

Doubleraspberry · 29/03/2022 10:06

I adore Liza. I want as much of her as we can have. She looked cheerful but frail to me.

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 29/03/2022 10:20

Brilliant clips ❤️

Flowersandwine12 · 29/03/2022 15:57

Love the clips here and also think gaga was polite enough to katliyn jenner

I think houseinhabit is bang on the money with her take. This was fully Gaga self promotion and extremely poor treatment of a very frail Minneli
