Suggestions for ruby wedding anniversary present?

Do you have any? I'm racking my brains but beyond a glass vase or ornament, or flowers, I can't think of anything that does not cost the earth.

The gift is for a couple who are quite materialistic but I can't afford to over £50, so wondered if there was something a bit unusual but definitely special that may work?

Thanks in advance.

Something for the garden?

Justmuddlingalong · 28/03/2022 14:25

Have a look on Etsy. Some items have tenuous links to ruby wedding anniversary gifts, but there's lots of inspiration.

We had our ruby anniversary last year. I'm glad that no-one bought us a "keepsake" as we have enough stuff. One of our friends sent us a breakfast hamper from M and S. It was much more appreciated than an ornament or other random useless "stuff".

I like the idea of something for the garden.

Newspaper from the day they were married? CD of the number one hits from that year?

A really nice bottle of ruby port?

Stuff like that would be shoved in the loft in our house.

We were given a lovely Rose called Ruby Anniversary for the garden. There is also one called Ruby wishes.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/03/2022 16:30

David Austin roses have some beautiful ones.

reluctantbrit · 28/03/2022 16:33

My parents got a rosebush for the garden and we made them a picnic at home.

Anything cute, keepsake, memory thing would be politely accepted and put away.

I would think most people 60+ don't want more stuff.

Decent bottle of red wine

For my parents golden wedding they got

Sponsorship of a golden retriever hearing dog - both because it was golden and because we had one as a child

A sixpence from the year they were married

And one that was just good luck - A framed invitation to their wedding.

For the Ruby wedding I bought some wine from the local vineyard with personalised labels.

For a friend's wedding anniversary they got some vines from the same vineyard - so they get a bottle of wine each year and can 'visit' if they want.

Another year my parents got tickets to a a live version of 'Allo 'Allo - they were big fans of the TV series.

Have a think about what they as a couple like, my parents always had wine in the house so that was a safe bet.

If they like theatre then a 'behind the scenes' tour if they are into football a stadium tour.

If they are gardeners then the rose idea is prefect.

I;ve just remembered for a friend's first wedding anniversary she gave me the keys to her house and I went in a cooked so when they came home all they had to do was press cook on the microwave and take the other food out of the oven, pudding was in the fridge and the starter was already on the table.

It's our ruby wedding in June
I would not want any ornaments or other keepsakes. Curry sounds good!

Nat6999 · 29/03/2022 03:55

We bought my mum & dad a painting by their favourite artist, framed & mounted.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/03/2022 05:15

Don't buy a carriage clock. That is such an old fashioned thing. We are approaching our ruby wedding. We would like: something for the garden, vouchers for a restaurant, vouchers for an art gallery vouchers for John Lewis or a good bottle of wine. No keepsakes or naff stuff.

reluctantbrit · 29/03/2022 07:47

@ApolloandDaphne

Depends, we have two carriage clocks in our house, one was actually given to us as a wedding gift 21 years ago.

Ours aren't old fashion, one is a skeleton one, the other Delft pocelain which is a nod to my childhood holidays.

But you have to know that people like these things, I would never give one just because I like them.

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 29/03/2022 20:23

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I like the idea of some David Austin roses. They have a massive garden but it's really boring because they're not keen gardeners though it's high time they learned
