Chickenpox Query - Is It or Isn't It ...

I need some help deciding if DS has chickenpox or not as I'm starting to feel like Cruella obsessing over spots.

Spots started yesterday on his face, arms and stomach, a fabulous mother's day gift I must say. Grin

I was expecting to have a clearer idea of whether or not it was chickenpox this morning but he's woken up no more or less spotty than when he went to bed last night. He has approximately 20 spots total.

Both chickenpox and hand, foot and mouth are doing the rounds at nursery and I can't tell the difference between the two plus the location of the spots is really throwing me.

Is it more likely to be the pox or HFM or maybe he has the plague. Grin How do I work it out?

I think the trunk spots make it more likely to
Be chickenpox. A warm bath is supposed to bring them out more if you haven't tried that?

Warm bath was my first thought so I did that yesterday evening and it made difference. It didn't bring out any more spots at all.

Spot wise most are on his face with only a few on his arms and stomach which doesn't seem typical of either from the albeit limited knowledge I have of how both normally present.

My four year old was sent home from school last week with suspected pox but he only had one on his neck. It stayed that was for 48 hours until the rest started erupting. It looked yellowish / fluid filled in the centre.

They progress differently, even when hard to tell at first. Have you got a photo?

That's good to know. I keep waiting for more to come up as most people say they explode quickly.

Alas no pictures, sorry not helpful I realise. Unfortunately he won't stay still long enough for me to photograph them and he sleeps on his front so I can't even take a sneaky one whilst he's asleep. Grin

You'll know it's chickenpox if you see any that are like blisters.

Unmistakable once you've seen one.

We had a few false alarms but honestly the CP blisters are their own thing and very recognisable.

He has 2 that look like blisters but they are next to his mouth so I can't work out if they look more like blisters because he's been rubbing them and drooling.
