Tips for getting blood (and various other fluids) out of duvet?

Had a fairly dramatic and quick birth at home on Friday, unfortunately my bed took the brunt of it 😬 I’m trying to decide if it’s even possible to clean my duvet which was quite expensive or to just bin it and get a new one. I will need to give the mattress a good scrub also, definitely can’t afford to replace that just yet!

Oh the horrors Grin

Congratulations on the birth, commiserations on the side effects Grin Cold water and bleach to start with for the mattress, hot water will 'cook' blood stains in. What's your duvet filled with?

I use a bio washing powder to get blood out of sheets etc. It does the trick for me, though I don't know how it'll fare against big stains. Has to be worth a try before chucking the duvet away, I reckon.
Congratulations on your new arrival! Flowers

Never was blood on hot, will bake the stain in as pp has said.
Get it in the bath and soak in cold water with some stain remover. There's a good one that comes in a turquoise cardboard box - I will Google the name now

It's this one. I soaked an absolutely wrecked white crochet wedding dress in this and it came out sparkling.

Soaking in cold salty water before washing will remove the blood, also don't wash it on a hot wash.

Thanks for all the responses!! The duvet is one of the Simba duvets so filled with some kind of feathers. Will do the Bath soak now and then pop to the laundry mat. How long do you think is best to soak it for? @katicomps going to order some of that now! Hopefully it’s on Amazon Grin

Ace bleach is fantastic at taking blood straight out of fabrics.

And you can use on delicates

RumJerrySailorRum · 27/03/2022 14:31

You just need salt and cold water for blood.

I soaked the Dress for a few hours. Good luck, I hope it all comes out.

Soak it in cold water, drag it out a bit and refresh the water and repeat until the water is clear. It will need to be on a cool wash at the laundry.

With the mattress if you can lift as much off the surface first with rags that will help. Then scrub with cold water. When it's all clean or as clean as you can drag it outside as the sun will help bleach it.
