Calling all those who still iron

Blush For all those who still persist in this heinous energy-guzzling habit (I’d love to give it up, but, you know, cotton sheets and 1200 spin tend to equal wrinkled rags…)

Any tips for a hardy steam iron that can handle hard water and regular descaling liquid without getting instantly ruined? I’m sick of forking out for deionised water!

I’ve never found one, I just buy the water and suck it up because it’s better than buying a new iron every 4-6months!

Do you also have a tumble dryer?

Use the water from that. Far cheaper and usually smells nice from residual washing powder/pods

I use the water from my condenser dryer for my steam iron.I have the iron over 12 years and live in a very hard water area.My iron is still in good condition.Still hate ironing though.

I have an old fashioned venting tumble dryer that doesn’t collect water and which I use as little as possible these days.

Do you filter the tumble water?

ThomasinaGallico · 27/03/2022 11:32

Water filters aren’t recommended as the water still often has carbon particles in it from the filter (and looking at my kettle, the cartridge generally only works optimally for about a week.

I have had this Bosch for several years now. It's designed to deal with hard water, no descaling needed. You just have to do a few steam blasts occasionally to clear any deposits. Works really well!

Thanks for the suggestion @HarimadSol. Smile A few reliability issues with the latest version of that one (yours is obviously fine) and the tank is a bit small, but I appreciate your input.
