Will this work for garden privacy?

We have a very long garden which is overlooked by our nosy neighbours. Last summer they stood at their bedroom windows spying on us every time we went out and major curtain twitching was going on.

This year I’m thinking of buying some 8ft or 10ft bamboo canes and then tying on with wire something like this so I make a makeshift High privacy screen. We have an alleyway between us so will need to go down at least 6ft.

I will stick the bamboo canes in the ground and hope they stay for the summer and then remove for the winter.

Will this work? We don’t know if we’ll be staying here in the future so don’t want to invest in trees and hedges just yet.

@HateNosyNeighbours

It’s annoying isn’t it *@BFPDec21*? Especially since I am running around with the kids. They keep curtain twitching and now the woman has her parents staying with her too indefinitely, so 8 of them to watch us 🤦‍♀️.

Anyway, does anyone think these are good? They’re bamboo planters. Does this mean they already come with the 12 ft bamboo?

They’re £100 for one trough though, I’m thinking of getting 3. Will it be a good investment?

They are expensive and the pots seem very shallow for the speed of the root growth. . Speak to your local independent garden centres. I paid £120 for 5 plants that were at least seven foot each. Plastic bell pots are cheap enough as well.

Most garden places are happy to do a deal if you’re buying a few plants. Be cheeky and ask. Avoid the big blue diamond types and look for the small places.

Great advice thanks @ASaucerfulOfSecrets. That sounds like a great deal. Will try to find some independent garden centres around my city.

Can you raise concerns with the police about being watched by adults especially as you have children....? I'd mention it to the neighbourhood community police because you don't actually know if you're being filmed.

Black bamboo is particularly fast growing so perfect for this situation.

Are you being serious? Call the police for someone looking out of their own windows?
TheLadyDIdGood · 29/03/2022 03:07

They're not just looking out of the window though are they? They are deliberately watching the op & her kids when they use their own garden. That puts a different spin on things doesn't it particularly when there are children involved. That is not a healthy pass time, tracking & watching neighbours enjoying their garden from an upstairs bedroom. So and yes I am being serious about contacting the PCO's.

Build a pergola & plant climbing plants like clematis or grape vines to climb up the vertical posts & along the rafters, you could also put trellis on two or 3 sides.

I think calling the police is a step too far 😂 I just want to block their view so they can’t see me jiggling around with my kids.
