Driving anxiety

Passed my test 30 odd years ago but I have always had anxiety issues when driving. Since the DC came along, I worked locally so i could do the school run and lwft DH to drive anywhere out of town. I try and push my myself to drive on dual carriageways, but the anxiety starts creeping in even before I have left the house at the thought of it, i don't attempt motorways. Went out with my DS yesterday who is learning to drive and I was a wreck which of course didnt help him

Looking at lessons but live hand to mouth daily as it is, so don't have cash spare

What is your DH like? Is he a calm supportive type? Because if so, have some practice sessions driving with him in the passenger seat for reassurance. Gradually extend your range as your confidence improves.
Motorways are actually the easiest roads to drive on - no traffic lights, right turns, roundabouts, pedestrians, cyclists, tractors, etc. The biggest problem is boredom, cruising along! Your anxiety has probably just brewed because you haven’t driven major roads for so long, but you can overcome it.

It's probably best to let someone else go out with your son while he is learning to drive, especially as you're so anxious. Could he save up like made and then get lessons? Far better to have a calm professional with him who has dual controls. Or wait until he's ready to take his test and then you could accompany him just for short local trips because he needs a responsible adult with him.

DH is calm and does go out with me, but he is also an advanced driver. We usually end up arguing as likes to point out all my faults and i want some encouragement
