How many houses between you and a train line not to hear it?

Looking to relocate, but there isnt much up for sale.
A decent looking house has just come up for sale, but it's about 100m from a train line. About 2 commuter trains an hour, from what we can tell, plus freight.
The set up would be:train tracks, garden, house, road, potential house. How much would that put you off a house? How much do you think we would hear/feel?
I've lived closer to a much busier train line before (Bristol-London mainline) and got used to ut. More wondering if we'd be stuck with a lemon! The other possibility is 200k more (50%), would be a real stretch, and looks out onto a massive pylon......
All thoughts welcome.

I live right on the northern line of the London tube. There is one very quiet road between me and the tracks. I honestly couldn't tell you when it passes!

@TrainTrackHouse

About 300 miles from West Byfleet! How do we find out if the trans are likely to signal in that area? It's all residential, but fairly close to a station and level crossing.
If it's near to a level crossing it's likely trains will sound the horn on approach. It's a safety measure. (Signaller here)

Also I used to live in a flat less than 20m from a rail line in Leicester, which was a raised line, so the bridge adjacent to the flat was level with the 1st floor I was on. Freight trains through the night. Got used to it within about a week.

Also used to live on flightpath to EMA, on the approach to landing, maybe 3 miles away so they were low when they got to us. Alot of freight flights in the early hours. The only ones that woke us up were when they missed a usually scheduled one lol. The silence was what subconsciously woke us!

I live next to a level crossing and the trains ever use their horns - maybe just when there are people working on the line.

If they sounded their horns for every station and level crossing, they'd be doing it constantly.

18 months ago we were looking at houses. Found one opposite a station, less than 100 yds. DH went to have a look one night and within five minutes two trains went past. One was freight and very long and loud with lots of grinding brakes

We found the hours for trains running and they stopped around 23:00 and started around 5:00am. I think freight go throughout the night though

We didn't take our interest any further. The house eventually sold after six months and dropping the price. Resale was a big concern for us

We viewed a lovely house in a cul de sac that backed on to a petrol station and exactly the same thing. Noise and fumes and potential resale issues. It sold after a year and dropping the price

Thank you for all the comments last week.
We viewed this weekend. Two trains were scheduled to go past while we were viewing, and we didnt hear a thing even with windows open.
Then we went for a wander, and timed getting back to the car when train 3 was due. Walking along the street infront of the house, and you could hear it, but it was no more intrusive than standard street noise. Its not been on the market long, and has had at least one unaccepted offer. Think we are going to put an offer in on Monday! It's not perfect, but it is a lot more perfect than anything else on the market.

My daughter's house backs onto a train line and it's barely noticeable, unless you're in the garden, and even then it's only for a few seconds. I actually love staying there, sleeping in the back bedroom and hearing the odd train go past during the night.

Sounds like exactly the same distance between me and my local, line with same amount of houses and gardens and road.

I never hear the trains during the day. We have about 4 passenger trains an hour but they are going very slow as they all stop at the station 2 min walk away. However I don’t hear the goods trains in the day.

Sometimes I hear a goods train in the small hours if I’m awake and the windows open. Never enough to wake me and not intrusive. I quite like hearing them.
