The quality of Primark clothing

I bought a lot of their clothes say 10 years back but found the quality was lacking eg the seams would be in the wrong place on jeans legs or tops would shrink or go baggy in the wash etc.

I've only used them for socks/tights/night-shirts etc in the years since then.

So for people who used them in the past and who still shop there now, has the quality gone up or down or remained much the same over the years? (And yes I do realise they are a budget provider.)

Only asking as there's now a huge one near me with lots of stuff that looks nice at a glance but just wondering if the quality is still an issue.

And all the shops near me - River Island, Topshop, Warehouse- have closed over the years so options for age 30s females are lacking...

You get exactly what you pay for at Primark. In my experience TU at Sainsbury’s is a step up in quality but still very affordable.

Some stuff lasts well, depends on the material it is made from. I’m careful what I buy from in there. However, just bought Ds some next joggers and after one wear and wash are covered in bobbles and I had a t shirt from M&S that lost it’s colour and shape after one wash so primark is no worse than anywhere else in my opinion.

It’s not bad quality at all for the price. All the shops have gone down hill quality wise. I put of jeans I bought a few months ago from River island have split in the arse area, I have never had than with primark jeans which are warn a lot more often.

I’ve had expensive clothes from Next which have worn really badly.
Never had an issue with Primark.
They’re also in the top 5% of Ethical Trading initiatives members.

Primark are able to keep their costs low due to not advertising which costs companies tens of millions every year which is passed on to the consumer. They also do not have an online shop which would need warehouse staff and delivery drivers and staff to deal with returns. Their website is also sparse with clothing ranges as they don't spend time updating it often, again requiring staff.

They also don't store clothes like other manufacturers do. I believe they make them and ship them straight in rather than forecasting ahead.

@sunisblinding

Primark clothes have always been crap quality unfortunately. But considering the fact that they're made by child slaves in Asia and sold dirt cheap I think you'd expect them to not be good quality.
I know Primarnie do auditing of their supply chain. There shouldn't be child/low wage workers, but of course there's little to no enforcement in the countries where the clothes are made. We all know big names are also criticised for the same matters you raise, @sunisblinding but it's unfair to suggest tgey know and do nothing.

Theres a lit if snobbery around Primarnie, but I perceive quality of some items has improved, but certainly not all. Towels have always been pretty good, knickers are good too, but they've still loads a flimsy tops/dresses....! I've bought good jeans and sweatshirts - had some for years tbh. Tgey wash well and have kept their shape.

Best to spend a little time checking seams before buying stuff but certainly worth a look.

I actually think the cheap clothes are not always bad.
I don't buy clothes there for myself but my dc does, and it lasts ok, even though get treated quite badly and worn and washed very often.
