Best time of year to visit Eden Project?

My DD is really into plants and gardening so I’d like to take her to the Eden Project as I’ve never been either.

I was thinking of going in the Easter break but just wondered how much flora we’d be able to see at this time of year?

It’s a long way for us so I’d like maximise and go at the best time of year.

If you are down that way can I recommend an excellent fish and chip shop. The Fisherman’s Chippy on Mevagissy harbour. The best I’ve ever tasted, all freshly caught and fried. You can sit on the harbour and watch the boats eating the fish and chips, it’s bliss.

It’s a 5min drive from the Lost Gardens. We visit Heligan usually in October (in the rain) and it’s still a fabulous day out. Take good walking shoes, there’s lots to see. You’ve got to cross the rope bridge as well. It’s a fun experience.

Another newish and superb garden is Tremenheere near Penzance. Views down over St Michael's Mount with some lovely jungle like planting. And sculptures. If you come to cornwall by all means go to Eden. But I see it just lots of concrete poured into a hole, with some plants!

There’s also a food stall that sells fresh of the boat mackerel rolls. Food of the gods.

Some really good suggestions here, thanks.

I’ve booked 3 days and demoted Eden to a “pop in” on the way back up north. We’ll spend the main days visiting Heligan, some other gardens mentioned here and the beach.

It's one of those places you need to go to to say you've been, but, not good. The domes are great but the outside it fairly soulless and badly maintained. A good chunk was shut off last time I went and my foot went through a board on a bit of decking. Overpriced too.

Mysterian · 26/03/2022 14:39

And the food is expensive and overly fancy, it's a bit preachy, and I got stuck in a queue behind a lady trying to pay with a card who had never heard of electricity before.

crackofdoom · 26/03/2022 16:20

I'd say it's worth more than a pop in, if you're going to pay the entrance fee. It takes the best part of a day. I disagree that Trebah is more interesting, too- not when you factor the domes in. Re the food- it WAS good value, but like so many places the menu has shrunk and mysteriously got more expensive during Covid. Not sure what a PP meant by "overly complicated " though- you can still get burgers and chips if you want 🙄.

I wouldn't bother. I was deeply disappointed. Go to Monkey World instead it's amazing

DustyMaiden · 26/03/2022 18:25

I like Eden at Christmas at night.

intwrferingma · 26/03/2022 18:42

Trebah's fab. It has its own private beach. And (small) forests of gunnera and bamboo.
And yeah I really urge you to come down West ti Tremenheere.
Or what about The Abbey Gardens on Scilly? You can do a day trip from PZ.
Sorry. I know you were specifically asking about Eden! I think the problem with Eden is most Cornish people have a hex on it. They see that the Emperor has no clothes!

PonyPatter44 · 26/03/2022 18:42

We went to Eden in November last year. It was interesting, the biomes were very good, and we took part in a virtual reality product test that was utterly brilliant. I would not like to go in the summer, though!

blackteaplease · 26/03/2022 18:49

I love the eden project, we go at least once a year. but it's terrible during school holidays. Too many people and no time to admire the plants. If you are travelling down to Cornwall it's worth the visit, as is the lost gardens of heligan.
