When would you drive...

2 bottles of white wine. Start 6pm... finish say 11pm. When would you drive the next day?

It depends how much of it you throw up before your body absorbs the alcohol.

In reality, it takes at least an hour to break down a unit of alcohol - so if its a typical bottle with 10 units that's 20 hours. I wouldn't drive the next day at all. Wait until the day after.

maddy68 · 25/03/2022 16:27

I would definitely drive the next day. (probably would still be over the limit !)

Sarahplane · 25/03/2022 16:29

If I'd had 2 bottles of wine to myself I'd be dying on the couch and not leaving my house. Definitely wouldn't drive the next day

girlmom21 · 25/03/2022 16:30

2 bottles of wine to myself? Probs when my soul finds a new 'host'

Jonny1265 · 25/03/2022 16:30

Assuming average strength of wine at 13%, then two bottles is 18 units. Average renal clearance rate is around 1 unit an hour. You can start the clearance from 6pm as the system will be in overload anyway so around midday should be clear. This assumes healthy liver and kidney function.

thenightsky · 25/03/2022 16:32

Last weekend I drank just short of two bottles of wine when staying with a friend. I had to drive home the next day. I honestly didn't feel anything close to being safe until teatime (5pm) and even then I had a distracting headache.

bloodywhitecat · 25/03/2022 16:33

I wouldn't drive the next day, I would wait until the following day.

traintraveller · 25/03/2022 16:34

7pm at the very earliest presuming 10 units per bottle.

Gingerninja4 · 25/03/2022 16:39

Also depends male/female and bodyweight

Also are they regular drinkers etc
I'm a lightweight one glass and I would be done

OP's asking when people would drive, not when they're safe to drive.

Generally, most people won't do the calculations and will drive when/if they feel ok if when they need to.

Is that a typo? Do you mean you wouldn't drive the next day? Or you would even though you think you'd still be over the limit?
cushioncovers · 25/03/2022 16:47

Mid morning the next day.

RJnomore1 · 25/03/2022 16:49

Tea time (about 5pm) but only if I had to as I’d probably still feel horrible although I should be under the limit.

Thoosa · 25/03/2022 16:49

Two bottles to myself?!

Even in my drinking days, that would have laid me out flat for 48 hours, assuming I wasn’t actually hospitalised. A bottle each used to be quite a good night.

Leftbutcameback · 25/03/2022 16:54

If I had to probably later in the afternoon say 4pm (thinking back to my uni drinking days!). Even though I might be under the limit by then I don't think I'd be a good driver, as too tired / I'll.

AdoraBell · 25/03/2022 16:57

Not the following day here. The second day would be okay for me.

Oblomov22 · 25/03/2022 17:10

I've always had a capacity to drink a lot. 2 bottles I can drink easily over a all-day /one day of a weekend away with the girls. With tonnes of food. And I always drink tonnes of water, as I go. And I don't get pissed as such. A good sleep, tonnes of water the night before, a full monty breakfast, and when I felt fine I'd drive home.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 25/03/2022 18:11

I would do the calculations AND judge whether I felt well and alert enough.

As a driver, that’s your responsibility. No less than knowing how much (little) you can drink before driving immediately Confused

MrsJBaptiste · 25/03/2022 18:13

Late morning after a decent breakfast.

Hoppinggreen · 25/03/2022 18:14

I would still be throwing up by early afternoon so not until next day

glowingcandle · 25/03/2022 18:15

There is no way I could drink two bottles of wine in an evening. I'd be unconscious first!

ComDummings · 25/03/2022 18:17

I’d probably not drive the next day because I’d have the worst hangover on earth (as well as still being over the limit!)
