Dye experts - can I dye this polycotton?

I have a duvet cover I want to have a go at dyeing as it's a rather uninspiring muddy "latte" colour.

It's 50/50 polycotton so should be OK with a Dylon pod that goes in the machine - but what is the safest colour to choose to overdye with, and how can I find out what results to expect?

I guess it'll need to be a dark colour, I'm not going to get bright results over deep beige am I...no luck finding a guide or a chart online, any ideas?

You can, but only the cotton fibre will hold the dye, so you'll get a slightly marled/washed out look for the fabric and any visible stitching is unlikely to take the dye. But I would do it anyway!

Navy.

EleanorDeCleaner · 25/03/2022 12:20

Yes I gather that the poly part won't take so I'm not expecting miracles...not too worried about the stitching!

Navy you think? I've just been looking a paint mixing guide thing and red might give me a terracotta type colour...or yellow could brighten it? At the risk of going mustard though...

Navy probably safer isn't it. Shame, I like the idea of something hideously bright.

A bold orange could work well over beige.

Navy would turn brownish over beige.
You will get a paler version of any colour due the the cotton alone picking up the dye, so I would go warmer, orange or terracotta or deep yellow.

Hmm, I could be persuaded by orange or maybe terracotta. I'm a huge fan of blue, if I thought the pre-dye solutions worked I'd try for royal blue - sadly the consensus on Amazon is they're a bit crap.

@Natfemale

Bleach it. Then it will all be a sort of linen colour.
Yikes. Is that wise?! Shock I suppose at least I could dye it a new colour afterwards.

OK I'll confess, this isn't a £12 polycotton duvet off Amazon, it's a £50 cover for a Duvelay. Blush
