I hate my new hair cut and I don’t know what to do!

It’s a short textured bob with an undercut. Hairdresser has cut it well about half dozen times, I asked for as short as she could, she’s cut the front of my fringe shorter than the hair by my ears. So I’ve got a bit at the side that goes behind my ear, but the front won’t and I hate it.

Feel the whole thing needs cutting much shorter now, but don’t want to go back to her incase she makes a pigs ear of it and don’t know where to go! How do I find a hairdresser I know can cut short hair well?

Going on holiday in a fortnight and really want to have a nice cut Sad

Hairband? Bandana?

Sorry, not helpful but I think that's a really nice cut.

Actually I had bra fastener length hair 2 weeks ago. HD was a bit snip happy and now about your length!! Give it a few days and washing and styling yourself and I bet it looks very different!!

NameChangeNameShange · 25/03/2022 09:53

Google or Pintrest Long pixie cut and have a go at restyling it yourself. I had similar a while back I found sorting the fringe out so it wasn't so swept off my face made a big difference.

wonderstuff · 25/03/2022 09:54

Maybe it’ll grow on me, before the fringe was the longest section and now there’s this annoying bit that either I tuck behind my ears or sits in front and to me looks wrong. Maybe it’s just me?

If it helps - I find mine only ever settles down a full week after the actual cut.

ThomasinaGallico · 25/03/2022 10:05

It’s a pain isn’t it? I think she tried a ‘directional’ trendy cut and it hasn’t worked as well on your fine hair as she or you hoped. I’ve also had a couple of disappointing cuts recently, and I really think there’s a skills crisis with hairdressers at the moment who can actually cut hair properly; it’s much more difficult than colours and updo’s, and long hair has been fashionable for so long that cutting has slipped down the curriculum.

If all else fails, it’ll grow back I guess.

wonderstuff · 25/03/2022 10:06

Another photo, the circled bit is annoying me, if the front was longer it’d be fine. Could that bit be cut short and look okay? It’s very short at the back with undercut on 2.

@ThomasinaGallico I think this is it, my hair is so fine it’s tricky to cut, she’s done okay before, but this is that bit shorter. How do I find a good hairdresser for short hair? I’ve had a couple in the past that have moved away or left hairdressing.

That would keep flopping in my face and annoy me as it’s not long enough to do anything with.

I think I would have to consider putting up with it until it grows longer or having the chop and that floppy was cut short.

tootiredtobother · 25/03/2022 10:13

hair clips pretty ones but too little girly are all the range now I quote my 27 year old DD

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 25/03/2022 10:16

Oh that’s not great I would definitely find a new salon and go shorter. The top layers are far to short against the longer layers at the sides.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 25/03/2022 11:58

It’s a nightmare to find a hairdresser that understands short hair. All the gallery photos they show have the ubiquitous long, balayage, waves. No one ever shows different short hair styles.

EishetChayil · 25/03/2022 12:00

Ooh I think it looks really nice, OP!

ThomasinaGallico · 25/03/2022 12:05

I’d go to a new salon and book a consultation, but not commit. If they promise the earth or try and confuse you with jargon - avoid. If they’re realistic about what your hair will support, it’s a plus. The more experienced the stylist, the better. They might not be able to do too much at this stage due to the nature of the cut, but if they can advise you for the future that might help.

ThomasinaGallico · 25/03/2022 12:14

The only other thing you could do, for special occasions, is to use mousse and styling wax (and maybe tongs/curlers) and blow drying to try and create some lift and texture. Obviously this is dependent on having the right tools and not having ten thumbs Grin and I have to say that my own efforts at this have, quite literally, fallen flat. Plus even the best blow dry doesn’t survive damp days. So, like I say, special occasions only.

wonderstuff · 25/03/2022 13:54

It’s so fine and so straight I really struggle to get much texture in it! When I was in my 20s I’d pin it all up in little twists, might get some slides and try that for a bit, too short at the front for a pony.
Did get a recommendation for someone from a friend but they’ve no availability until May.

Tempted to attack it with clippers..

We have the same hair and people that can actually cut short hair are few and far between. It looks to me like the parting in yours is not in the right place. I would try changing it and perhaps have two partings in it so that it lies more to the sides leaving you less of a fringe coming forward that you need to faff with. The best thing I've found for thickening hair are Lush Big Shampoo and Lush Rub Rub Rub body scrub/shampoo. You could glue it in place with Elnett. Spray it lavishly underneath and press into place.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/03/2022 15:22

I'd not risk the clippers OP!

I don't think the style of cut works for your hair type and texture and the hairdresser ought to have known that. I would be disappointed but with the caveat that is certainly 'fine' in the respect that I doubt anyone would notice anything awry.

I think I would try a hot brush and some product in it to see what that leaves it like, fiddle with the parting and way the hair is falling a bit as that doesn't look quite right to me and muss it up and if still not happy then find a (different) hairdresser and just go shorter.

ThomasinaGallico · 27/03/2022 20:31

I would echo that; you can either grow it back out to a longer length and tidy it up, or go much shorter and go for a feathered pixie crop, which if done well works a treat on fine hair. If hairdressing talent is thin in your area, I’d go for the former.

VyeBrator · 27/03/2022 20:35

Not helpful I know, but it looks lovely OP.

DasAlteLeid · 27/03/2022 20:43

I’d quiff the front with some hairspray and Kirby grips until it all grows an inch or two and then go back for another cut.

Lots of quiff ideas here:

www.hairdohairstyle.com/quiff-short-hairstyles-for-women/

I think it looks nice but if you’re not happy, play around with the front until you are!

intwrferingma · 28/03/2022 14:12

I'd leave it and let it grow rather than risk compounding the problem with another short style yiu don't like.
I can't see what make up you're wearing but I do think good eye make up is short hair's best friend. You talk another lack of texture - there are some great dry shampoo style texture products on the market. You could try those.
Or a lovely hair band and big earrings.
