Fuel duty really isn't slashed!

Funny how 'slashed' was the word I kept seeing bandied around by the media for Rishi cutting fuel duty by 5p, and how so many are saying about how marvellous a saving it is.

It reset the local pump price to Friday. Whoopie fucking do.

Don't even get me started on how being extra careful using my gas and electric is irrelevant as my standing charges shot up to ridiculous levels.

Just a vent. Happy to be ignored 😁

No you are right it was a shit sandwich with not a lot of sandwich.

ElfDragon · 24/03/2022 22:28

Yeah, it’s ridiculous how short the media’s memory is.

I was looking back over some text messages earlier today, and found some from last September, during the fuel crisis. My friend and I were fuming about how outrageous the diesel prices were, and how garages were quick to raise them to cash in from desperate drivers - the motorway services near me diesel price was £1.53/litre! What I wouldn’t give to be paying that now! And that was an inflated price, standard price for my area at the time was £1.40ish. And only 6 months ago.

Damnloginpopup · 24/03/2022 22:29

As it is I'm having to fork out extra for E5 fuel to not wreck my vehicle!

At least Morrisons have Bombay Sapphire at £16.99 a litre. Can't run the car on it but I can have a net saving by staying home instead of going out 😁

Back in July I went on a UK roadtrip. I was pissed off paying £1.29 a litre at supermarkets. 20% more now.

And I noticed that some places put the price up the previous day so we don’t even get the full 5p reduction.

And BP have more money than they know what to do with.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 24/03/2022 22:53

I think Rishi lost the relativity what with all MPs getting an obligatory payrise.

mumda · 24/03/2022 22:58

Costco fuel queue was out onto the rather busy main road. So no point even thinking about getting fuel because of how much would get wasted queuing.

Zampa · 24/03/2022 23:00

Surely the money's going from public funds (tax that could be spent on essential services), straight into the pockets of the oil companies?

I think it would have been better to stop the NI increase, better supporting who can't absorb the price rises as easily.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 24/03/2022 23:05

Every petrol station near us has just put their prices up. You're lucky to get 1 or 2p cheaper than yesterdays price. Some are higher! It's fucking disgusting.

Strawberry0909 · 24/03/2022 23:11

Our local BP garage has gone up another 5p, £1.89 a litre for diesel,

Jellykat · 24/03/2022 23:16

As usual, the Torys have tried to polish a turd.. but we all know Rishi delivered a pile of shite yesterday!

Whitefire · 24/03/2022 23:22

It is shit, but the amount of petrol I use (going to work, unavoidable) I am grateful for even the tiniest small mercies.

It is disgusting.

I kept waiting for the price to drop when barrels Prices reduced last week.
But no- they kept it steady high knowing that the govt would reduce fuel duty. Bastards.

balalake · 25/03/2022 07:12

Perhaps the right wing media want him to succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, so talk him up.

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 25/03/2022 07:15

Ours is going up pretty much daily at he moment. We use diesel and it was 175.9 yesterday. Shock

ThatsNotItAtAll · 25/03/2022 07:30

5p is nothing - I live in Germany and they've just announced they're reducing petrol tax by 30cents but everyone is still cynical that the oil companies will just rub their hands together and increase prices more to suck that 30 cents a liter up for themselves. We're also getting 300€ per employed adult (taxed though) and 100€ per child one off payment (not loan like in the UK) from the government via wages and child benefit respectively.

Rummikub · 25/03/2022 08:23

⬆️Yes that’s what seems to be happening- the oil companies putting prices up more rapidly so we don’t benefit anyway. And holding the price up even when barrel prices drop. Greedy bastards.
