I knocked my head in spectacular fashion yesterday.

Got sorted in A and E, mild head injury etc. Does anyone have any advice?

Be kind to yourself, it takes time to feel normal again.

mbosnz · 24/03/2022 17:37

Take it very, very quietly, and be prepared to be affected for a lot longer than you thought!

Quartz2208 · 24/03/2022 18:06

Rest for at least 24 if not 48-72 hours.

Take it very very slowly

I have a killer headache (waiting for painkillers to kick in), and I can remember stuff now. Yesterday apparently I forgot a load of stuff, it got better as the day went on.

I’ve got nights after the weekend, wondering if perhaps that is the wisest move. All we can do is wait and see I suppose. Might speak to occy health tomorrow.

Bit extreme maybe, but states the importance of rest.

I'm in the same position after an accident this week. I've just done as little as possible and rested as much as I can. I'm very active normally so I've removed my Fitbit and just pottered. I wish us both a speedy recovery, it's horrid 😢

Sprig1 · 24/03/2022 18:42

What do you do for work? I would say it is likely that you will need at least the early part of the week off work.

daretodenim · 24/03/2022 18:54

I'd highly advise you to basically do nothing at all gif now and then take it VERY easy.

Why?

I got knocked out at the same time as a friend (in different country - I was on holiday). My neck was also hurting so I couldn't walk or move properly, so basically stayed still. My friend carried on as usual. ONE YEAR LATER my friend still had the headache. He'd had to go on long term sick leave and was desperate for treatment. After about 18 months he went abroad - different countries(!) - to find treatment. It totally changed his life and his family's life as there was no relief from the pain and he got exhausted extremely quickly.

So honestly, it's not worth the risk of doing whatever you think is important right now!!

daretodenim · 24/03/2022 18:55

*no idea where "gif" came from! 😂

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/03/2022 18:58

Just take it slow, I did this before Christmas after overdoing it on a rare night out. It took 2 weeks before I started to feel like I wasn't thinking through syrup. Was lucky that I was a) working from home and b) my partner had taken my son away for the first week to see his nan!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/03/2022 18:59

I read that getting fresh air and walking would help with the healing and tbh I did always feel better after a gentle walk.

BlueCookieMonster · 24/03/2022 19:38

I’m supposed to be on a ward doing nights (nurse).

All I’ve done today is nap, have a short walk and watch YouTube videos about the sims. I’ve done very little.

Used to be a rugby coach and we were told to advise no screens for 48 hours then keep quiet and calm x imagine telling a 14 year old
Girl she shouldn’t use her phone for two days 🤣🤣🤣

Riitt · 24/03/2022 20:55

I was told no screens and to rest as much as possible when I had mine. Hope you feel better soon.

BlueCookieMonster · 25/03/2022 17:49

I’m basically napping like a toddler currently, my head feels like a giant bruise and brain is like treacle.

My doc has signed me off for a week, so hoping it will set me right.

Very emotionally attached to my cold pack for my head.
