Seems just wrong talking about holidays doesn’t it with the horrendous things ongoing at the moment.
But I’m sure that people are trying to get life back to some normality and need something to look forward to.

We were going to go to Florida but reading reviews it seems not great and super expensive.

So if you have got somewhere booked or planned (with older kids) where are you off to if you don’t mind sharing.

Went to Belfast a few weeks ago, going to Jersey in early May and Copenhagen for a short break in June.

Hopefully will go somewhere in the autumn but DH is having an operation so it depends how his recovery goes.

MsTSwift · 24/03/2022 11:27

Also planning Italy road trip! Dh has serious plane guilt and I recently had an utterly grim plane experience plus caught covid on it so the car it is! Looked at trains but insanely e pw for 4.

AmishTour · 24/03/2022 11:27

The USA in August. So looking forward to it.

We have family on the New England coast and can’t wait to see them again post covid. They live in very picturesque place.

Will also go to Boston, DC, Pennsylvania and finally camping with friends in North Carolina.

Three weeks in all.

Icmeler, Turkey

In Mexico 5 nights ;)

MermaidEyes · 24/03/2022 11:37

AmishTour will you be going to the Amish villages in Pennsylvania at all?! That was one of my favourite ever holidays!

OP, we're just doing a sunny holiday in a villa this year with teens, lots of sun, pool, food and maybe a trip out somewhere. Hoping restrictions will have eased enough in most countries that we can be more adventurous next year.

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 24/03/2022 11:37

Devon and Cornwall. As much walking and swimming as possible. Plus Cornish pasties, cream teas and clotted cream ice cream!!

PinkFluffyUnicornSlippers · 24/03/2022 11:55

All Inclusive to Fueteventura. Literally can’t wait! Lots of sun, sea and relaxing. Got a couple of day trips in mind but apart from that we’re just going to relax. Haven’t been abroad in nearly 4 years so this is a real treat.

I just got back from a Caribbean cruise, I’m going to Brussels, New York, on a Med cruise, to Rhodes and on a river cruise in Europe this year.
Holidays that worked well with teens/older teens for us were cruises or cruise and stay/stay and cruise holidays. We always had enough activities to do as a family, on our own or in various combinations of family members. We enjoyed the sightseeing and the food and drink. I particularly liked being able to book two balcony cabins next door to each other and opening up the divider inbetween. We had a family tradition of watching all the port departures together with a mocktail or cocktail.
I took my DC to Florida and then added on a cruise and did the same in LA. Those holidays were very good.

Italy is just lovely. All the ice cream shops... most people dont have a dessert in a restaurant, they stroll back to the hotel and I dont know what is in Italian ice cream but there is nothing like it IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

GnomeDePlume · 24/03/2022 12:13

South of France in a villa. Own pool, walking distance to a supermarket. Close enough to drive out to see Roman ruins and castles.

It's also a bit of a trip down memory lane. DCs (in their 20s) are joining us with their respective partners. They are excited to revisit places we went to when they were children.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 24/03/2022 12:15

Looking forward to a couple of weeks self catering in the Yorkshire Dales! Heavenly

underneaththeash · 24/03/2022 12:16

We’re going to bamburgh, Cornwall and Florida.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 24/03/2022 12:25

We're going for 9 days in Scotland (Ben Nevis area) and a week on the Isle of Anglesey. We are a couple with a dog. Can't wait!
We'll do a foreign holiday early next year, hopefully when more countries have dropped mask wearing etc.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 24/03/2022 12:56

Does the back garden count?! Was hoping to go to Poland but with the current situation in Ukraine I don't feel 100% comfortable going at the moment.

Florida. One of my best holidays ever!! There's so much more than just the parks. Celebration is a lovely place to walk around. We also go look around the Disney hotels. Just tell the person on the entrance of the car park you want to look around to get some idea for next time. Each hotel has a gift shop which is nice to look at. Although I'm not sure with Covid if you'd be able to do the hotels at the moment. Disney boardwalk is another lovely place to walk round. They have an ice cream place called beaches and cream. The kitchen sink is amazing. It's filled with loads of different flavoured ice creams, pieces of cake, bananas, strawberries and loads of squirty cream. It's to share although they do say if one person can eat it all it's on the house. It's usually packed out in there but there's no need to book. They just give you a device and when a table becomes free it alerts you so you're free to still mooch about whilst waiting. The malls are really good and if you are hiring a car a drive down to the coast is nice too. Can't remember which beach it is but on one of them you can actually drive the car onto the beach. The parks are amazing too and if you plan them properly and don't mind spending a full day in there you can easily do pretty much the full park in a day. I'd definitely recommend doing universal studios and islands of adventure in 2 separate days though. We used to do 3-4 days in the parks then have a water park day to chill out. Then do the same the second week and have another water park day to chill out or drive down to the coast. Weather wise we'd always go June time. It's stiflingly hot and humid and usually thunders and lightnings and torrential rains every day around 3pm but it dries up really quick. The rain doesn't really stop anything though most people walk round in a poncho. If it's lightening they'll sometimes hold out on a show or close some rides off till it passes over. October November is still hot during the day but cools off a bit more on a night time. I think that time of year is also the world show case at Epcot where each country has different food to try.

Some places to eat that aren't in the parks.

Cici's pizza. Salads, soups, garlic bread, pizzas and desserts

Sweet tomatoes a big salad bar type place

Manny's chop house in Haines city, a steak house that does the most amazing steaks and during happy hour 2 for 1 on cocktails

The all you can eat buffet places are popular too. Although the one we used to go to I think has now shut down although I'm not 100% but it's called Golden Corral.

@NeedleNoodle3

Apart from the fact that DH gets sea sick on a rowing boat, a cruise is my idea of a nightmare.

It’s just too much, too many people and no way to get off

gogohm · 24/03/2022 15:22

Italy by motorbike donor really suitable for the family, but I do recommend driving to Italy via Bavaria as a family holiday, there's a great camp/accommodation site north of Venice

TeeBee · 24/03/2022 15:25

Santorini and the Algarve. Can't bloody wait!! I've missed my holidays.

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/03/2022 15:27

Sardinia, our happy place. Back again after a two year break.

I just hope Italy pulls its finger out and follows the rest of EU with regards to vaccinations. They are still in the "within 6 months of last vax" territory, and as we all had ours in December...... we will by then have run out of time.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 24/03/2022 15:39

Northumberland and holy island.
And Dartmoor.

trilbydoll · 24/03/2022 15:45

Two weeks in France, one in our tent in the Vendée and one in a fixed tent in Dordogne.

irregularegular · 24/03/2022 15:46

The Azores! Booked flights a while ago and have now finally sorted accommodation. Seemed like a good compromise between something new/different - but still Europe and a country that values UK tourism so feels fairly "safe". Excited!

cptartapp · 24/03/2022 15:46

Malaga
Halkidiki
Possibly Lisbon

irregularegular · 24/03/2022 15:48

Also a few days in Rome at Easter. The Azores is July.

Squashbanana125 · 24/03/2022 15:49

Paris in a few weeks for 3 nights and Dubai in June. Will book something else for later in year, not sure where. Thinking South Africa to visit DH family
