Just looking for some support as its 4am and im in too much pain to get back to sleep 😭 last night I slipped in my house and twisted my left ankle . I can't weight bare its immediately gone swollen it's so so painful. I even hurt the right one also and though that's tender and bruised I can weight bear on it .
I have a history of ankles braking and them twisting in so I went to out of hours as our village hospital was shut. A lovely doctor reckons its ligaments again but with the history would like an xray but would have to go back at 8am to the hospital. That's fine and what we're doing this morning i got given crutches to use which are really hurting my chest now though.

I have hardly slept its so sore .
Im proper panicking about how were going to cope getting the 2 young kids to school and back my mum is taking them in the morning and dads taking me up to the hospital again but just bit worried after that. Next week is there last week anyway and then the holidays how on earth am I going to manage. Sorry just having an absolute meltdown right now 😭

Has anyone gone through this with kids. Last times ive hurt it ive never had the kids so it was easier to cope

Hiya. I’m awake and have some experience. I broke my ankle a few months ago. Yes it was a bind with the lack of mobility but we managed. Once I could transfer a bit better I actually used a mobility scooter to get about Grin did the school runs, popped to the local shops. It worked pretty well!

Tonight have you - taken all the pain relief you can? Are you icing it? Is it elevated? (I mean well propped up). All these things will help. Hope it’s not broken.

I am inbthe exact same boat as you, and sending you strength to get through the pain. That is why I am up at this hour!
I fell down the stairs and fractured my ankle and tore all my ligaments three weeks ago. I have two boys aged 6 and 9 and I'm not going to lie it has been really tough, but doable. Luckily my husband now works from home so has been doing a lot of the school runs (we have to go by car and obviously I can't drive at the moment) and friends have done the ones that he can't do. I have had to order the food shopping in (difficult where we are as it's so rural but sainsburys do deliver so we have just had to be savvy with our shopping)
How old are your children and do you have a partner?

ThePontiacBandit can I ask you a question please? Mine is still so so painful, and I am going on holiday in 7 weeks (10 weeks after it happened) How quickly were you able to walk on it after your cast/boot came off at 6 weeks?

I’m not going to lie, it was a slow recovery. I also partially ruptured a ligament also falling down stairs. The worst bit after coming out of plaster was the altered sensation in my foot - all the nerves go to sleep from lack of use. One thing that really helped was an electric foot massager. Felt weird but the more I used it the better it got!
I’m 6 months on from when I did it now and I’m back at work on my normal hours, almost back to all activities (still limited how much I can tolerate at the gym). Weaning off my painkillers too.
I’m awake because I’ve been in A&E all night with a different issue but I’m going home in a minute!

I broke my ankle, double spiral fracture of my fibula but thanklly it was in a good position so didn't need an operation. I had been sat with my feet under me at my caravan, went to stand up & my legs were numb & just crumpled with a loud crack. My husband was scared to move me & dialled 999, I was in pot for 6 weeks with 2 weeks non weight bearing, I had to have a zimmer frame as I'm dyspraxic & have awful coordination for the non weighbearing time & then crutches for the rest, I managed okay, my tips are if you have a zimmer frame, tie a carrier bag on the front for anything you need, get a raised toilet seat & use a travel mug for drinks so you can put them in your carrier bag, wrap sandwiches in foil instead of a plate. Keep your leg up above your heart for at least the first week as much as you can, put an ice pack behind your knee, this makes your veins contract & stops swelling, stock up on painkillers & take them regularly, don't wait for the pain to start.

Thank you ive fractured it its called an undisplaced oblique fracture of the distal fibula. now put in boot and resting already so annoyed though

Sorry to hear it’s broken! It’s good that it’s undisplaced and you’re in a boot, I had to be in plaster strictly non-weight bearing (couldn’t put it down at all, on crutches) for 6 weeks. Make sure you rest as much a possible Flowers
