How much time do you spend preparing for an interview?

Presuming you don’t do them that regularly, I suppose?

I have an interview tomorrow and am interested where I am compared to other people. Obviously it depends on the role and lots of other factors.

I’ve spent a few days, which seems like a lot!

I think it really depends on the role and the level of seniority involved?
I am the most senior person in my organisation and I spent quite a few days preparing for the interview for this role: ]
I read the job description very carefully
I spoke to 2 very respected people in the sector (but not working here) and got some feedback /advice
I researched the organization thoroughly, making sure I was very familiar with the scope of the work
I spent a long time putting together my written application, in the ad for the job they specified a LOT of requirements so I itemised them and gave a short description of how I had the relevant exepertise / experience for each area - with an example from past positions
I tweaked my CV to make sure what they were looking for was highlighted
I spent time writing a succinct cover letter

I got the job and I knew leaving the interview that I had nailed it. I have been offered every job I have applied for apart from one very early on in my career where I simply didn't have the required experience.

I like to prep and feel ready before interviews.

Good luck OP - I really hope you get it!

I’ve only ever been given a couple of days notice for interview so usually two evenings prepping for the interview ahead. I like to be thoroughly prepared for applying for a role though and will spend agggges putting together the perfect personal statement / cover letter for a role (several drafts over a week or two). By the time I get to interview, I have all that research and planning done anyway and I try to just look at my notes and get an early night!!

I tend to do 30 mins slots over 2-3 days and a 30 min recap the night before.

Any more I find and it’s overload for me. May up to an hour if complex.

I’m feeling a bit better about mine now! I just don’t seem very articulate when I’m attempting to answer a question when I practice.

@SheWoreYellow good luck for tomorrow.

This is why it’s good to practice interviews with a friend, neighbour or relative. I always found my interviews went much better when I practiced with another person.

Can you prepare answers for difficult questions that you are sure will be asked? And practice how to recite them in a way which sounds spontaneous? You know, sound like people/politicians/experts who are interviewed on the Today programme...

Companies tend to ask very similar questions so I have a notebook of Q & A’s which I kind of memorise like a script really.
