This is a bit embarrassing and I'm sorry for the detail but I need some help. Between my toes smells absolutely rancid. Between one of the toes in particular the skin is peeling and the smell is like vinegar. It's disgusting! Please help me. What is this? I wear clean socks every day, what's going on?

Do you have athlete's foot? If you think that's what it might be, there are loads of OTC treatments that are very effective.

You could also try going barefoot as much as possible - that will help.

Boxowine · 23/03/2022 16:10

Blow dry your feet after showering. Yes, really. And then put some anti fungal powder on. If you wear dress shoes, be sure to wear those little ped thingies.

Athletes foot? Try tea tree oil in between your toes and it will soon go.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 23/03/2022 17:59

it sounds like athlete's foot - basically a fungal infection.

You need to use medication (you can get it OTC) and air your feet out as much as possible. If you do have to wear shoes, make sure you wear cotton socks and change them regularly (multiple times a day if you can).

At home, go barefoot and wash your feet thoroughly with soap and water and make sure they're bone dry before you put shoes and socks back on again.

Agree with all the above and also avoid synthetic shoes - always leather and 100% cotton socks. When I met my partner 22 years ago his feet were disgusting 🤢 like yours but between every toe and crevice. I thought there dead hamsters in the boot but they were his spare trainers. Cotton socks and leather shoes (always) did the trick. Good luck.

Could it be this dermnetnz.org/topics/pitted-keratolysis?

Sparklingbrook · 24/03/2022 07:51

If they smell that 'foul' you should get a GP appointment, especially if you have tried everything.

OnlyClothes · 24/03/2022 10:49

Wash feet including between the toes with a bar of soap, rinse, dry every day. Clean cotton or wool socks every day or barefoot if no shoes. Leather shoes only. Make sure shoes are dry and odour free. If shoes smell, bin them. When you’ve got on top of the smell then use footner.

DS (11) had this last year, he has awful feet that smell and he had flaking skin. We washed his feet every day when he came home from school and applied tea tree oil which helped. Now he has odor eater insoles in all shoes, wears cotton socks and changes them regularly. The odor eaters are soaked by the end of the day so I have to take them out of the shoes to dry Blush but it has made a huge difference to his feet and the smell. I just hope he continues by himself as we move into the teen years!

My son had pitted keratolysis and my dear lord, the smell. No matter how much he washed. Mind you it was quite fascinating to look at (in one of those Dr Pimple Popper sort of ways). Anyway, he got a ‘special cream’ from the GP (I assume some sort of anti fungal) and his feet no longer smell to my knowledge.

HomecomingKween · 24/03/2022 11:40

Whyyy did I put 'pitted keratolysis' into google images? Hello, trypophobia, my old friend Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/03/2022 20:35

Please help me

@Teadrinker11 you have had some help!

Iggly · 24/03/2022 20:36

Are you washing your feet daily? Using a fresh towel and boil washing the towels and socks?

Plus get some athlete foot spray for your shoes and cream for your feet.

KEG05 · 24/03/2022 22:49

I did the exact same 😂. Google was not my friend 🙈.

User478 · 24/03/2022 22:52

Wash your feet, dry properly and put on antifungal cream/powder.

Never wear the same shoes two days in a row.

JaffacakeJanine · 24/03/2022 22:53

Go go GP or a podiatrist, they will diagnose you correctly

Nopetryagain · 24/03/2022 22:58

Use hibiscrub on your feet when you shower (massage it in, let it sit for a few minutes then rinse) and afterwards when dry use an Athletes Foot spray between the affected toes. You will have lovely smelling feet in no time!
