Calpol 6+ alternatives

My DD has decided that Calpol 6+ tastes disgusting and has started spitting it out.
Not sure if it’s a change to the formula, or just another thing on the list of foods/etc that she used to like and now doesn’t!

Does anyone have any alternative suggestions that might be more palatable?

(To be clear, I’m not trying to dose her up on a daily basis, but she had needed it for a few unrelated things over the last month and has now refused it/spat it out every time)

It’s not meant to be delicious but I would agree that they aren’t great. I just get anything cherry but mine will now take a tablet so I sometimes top up with suspension depending on the dose. I’m sure you can get flavourless versions too -ask at chemist

Dispersible paracetamol at the right dose. Doesn't taste any better though!

Nurofen melts, but you haven't said if she minds the taste of kids nurofen!

Thank you, will have a look for a different flavour/own brand. Our local shops only do the branded but next time I’m in the big town will have a look around and/or ask at the pharmacy.

I’m not sure she will go for the dispersable but perhaps if it mix it into a bit of fruit juice or something?

I haven’t seen the neurofen melts before - presume that is ibuprofen based rather than paracetamol but will have a look for those too.

Thank you!

We are currently still using up the infant 1 for SDC. I'm not throwing it away just because they are now over 6... Currently the highest dose on the bottle has been fine to reduce temp / ease throat pain to allow eating/drinking.

ididntevennotice · 23/03/2022 12:33

The other calpol? Or will she not touch any now?

Tonsiltrouble · 23/03/2022 12:33

How old is she? Disprol is a possibility but it’s disgusting. I’m considering switching my 8yo to tablets.

Cakesnbiscuit · 23/03/2022 12:34

I remember my mum swapping me to calpol 6 plus it still makes me 🤢

If your desperate the under 6s you can give but need a bigger dose and tastes miles better.

Meltlets are a good option from nurofen, haven’t really seen anything else recently. It’s a bit of a rubbish age from a medication POV.

choosername1234 · 23/03/2022 12:34

You can give the baby calpol and just adjust the dose (double the ml).

Could you start teaching her to swallow tablets? I taught my son using the tictac sweets and it's made medicines much easier

KatyN · 23/03/2022 12:34

We used to mix calpol with ribena.

Whitefire · 23/03/2022 12:36

Calpol do melts as well, you can either let them melt in the mouth or dissolve in a small amount of water.

My 16 year old still has Calpol 6+ as she refuses to take a tablet.

A tablet is an option, use a straw for the water, makes it much easier.

Legoisthebest · 23/03/2022 12:37

You can get Calpol 6+ as melts. They do feel like you are eating chalk though.
Morrisons own brand 6+ tastes different to Calpol. I personally thought it was gross compared to actual Calpol but your daughter might like it.

Maflingo · 23/03/2022 13:01

Ahh you are all fab, I am clearly very sheltered when it come to calpol options! Thank you, plenty of options to consider Smile
