How do you get your ducks in a row?

I think the end is on the horizon, I am heartbroken but things haven't been working between us for a while now.

3 DC, 2 younger are his. We live together in social housing. No savings.
He works ft, I work pt nights but would probably end up stopping work when we split (not through choice, because shifts can be odd and I have no childcare support other than him).

So, what do I need to do to prepare for this?
How did you all get your ducks in a row?

We are not married, been together 7 years though.

Is it a joint tenancy? If it is he will have to agree to leave the house if you want to stay in it.

Yes, joint tenancy.

I’m really sorry OP, but if you’re not married he owes you nothing beyond child support

Length of relationship means zilch

Getting ducks in a row refers to getting things like bank statements / passports / copies of marriage certs etc together. In your case, you’ll have to appeal to his better nature to leave the house if you’ve both got tenancy.
