I have a relative taking in a mother and two daughters (8 and 11) from Ukraine, and we are making them up a welcome package, my daughters writing them a letter and we have a couple of ideas of things to get but I was wondering if you could please help me with ideas of what else we can put in it. Thank you

Maybe some paper and colouring pens/pencils? Little fidget toy or small Lego set?

Nice toiletries - lip balm, hand cream.

Could you make some cards with translations on them?

Bed = xxxx
Drink = xxx
School = xxx
Chocolate = xxx
Hairbrush = xxx
Friend = xxx

Etc

Toiletries basics and posher stuff. Include some sanitary products as well.

If you have an Eastern European food shop nearby go and see if you can get some tastes of home for them. Ask there as well if they know of any local Ukrainian groups / social groups that have been set up recently

Costa / Starbucks voucher so they can go and treat themselves

List of local activities that mum and / or kids might enjoy. Like our local German church run a free film afternoon on Fridays or any sports groups or clubs.

Perhaps a voucher for primark or similar so they can go and get some new clothes. Particularly as it's a bit warmer and they might not have brought summer things.

Shampoo and conditioner, tooth paste and brushes, floss, soft facecloths, shower gel, nail scissors and tweezers, cotton wool and buds, TCP, paracetamol.

A little basket of food stuff: fresh coffee and tea, with a couple of pretty mugs, sugar, biscuits and crackers, rice and tinned tomatoes, spices, herbs and seasoning. Maybe some UK specialities like good cheddar cheese, marmalade or shortbreads.

I'd add a cuddly toy for each of the children and maybe a wordless book (Where's Wally or You Choose)

A soft blanket for the DC
A towel each.

Would sanitary towels or tampons be inappropriate? Only it might be a small addition that saves them having to ask if they're embarrassed, especially with translation.
