Saw this little yellow bird on our way to school . We got pretty close and I’ve never seen such a bright yellow bird in the wild in England so though it might be a pet.

What bird is this?

It does look like a canary. So, I think you are right- escaped and why it allowed you to get close.
Might be idea to post on local Facebook and say where you saw it in case someone is looking

I dont know much at all about birds but my first though would be a cannery.

There are a few yellow birds in the uk but they all have other markings too - that one is very yellow. I think it probably is someone’s pet canary. They can survive, though usually not for very long, in the ‘wild’. Have you looked on your local FB or missing pets page?

Most yellow bird that’s native is yellow hammer or yellow wagtail and it ain’t either of those. In wrong habitat as well.

Canary? Must have escaped. Maybe worth posting online to ask if anyone had lost one in your area?

TickledOnion · 22/03/2022 08:48

That’s what I thought. I’ll have a look on Facebook but it was gone by the time I walked back so not sure there is much point.

If it was my pet, I'd feel like there was very much a point for someone to post that they had seen him or her!

I think there is a point is saying the local area you saw it. If it’s that tame and its owner can get there it may well come back to them.
