Planing a 2 day trip to manchester on train over Easter. Looking at staying at Premier inn . Where would you stay if visiting with teenager?

Anything you would also do?

We always stay in the city centre one at Portland street which is handy for most stuff, though I’m no expert on Manchester!

Lewl89 · 22/03/2022 03:15

The Malmaison is a lovely hotel and in a great location Smile

Starlightstarbright1 · 22/03/2022 07:54

Thank you. Any must have activities?

I always think of Manchester as a place of venues rather than ‘activities’. It’s rich in theatres, galleries, arts centres, museums, and has everything the fifteen trillion university students could possibly want.

Places to go include:

HOME, Manchester
The Lowry, Salford Quays
The Royal Exchange theatre
Manchester Art Gallery
The Whitworth Gallery
Contact Theatre
Manchester Museum
RNCM
The Museum of Science and Industry
The People’s History Museum
Old Trafford football ground
The entire Northern Quarter
Castelfield
Salford Quays and Media City

Sorry - you said a two day trip!

There are so many Premier Inns there - I’d say anywhere in the city centre should be fine.

Lastqueenofscotland · 22/03/2022 08:57

Avoid picadilly gardens and you’re golden!
Re stuff to do
Afflecks
The football museum
If they are into football a stadium tour
The art gallery to see the lowrys
John Rylands library on deansgate
Imperial war museum north

highlandcoo · 22/03/2022 09:00

The Travelodge in Ancoats (on the edge of the Northern Quarter which you'll want to visit) is cheaper than other budget hotels and in an area that's really being developed just now with new restaurants etc and just a short walk into the city.

Wrinklepicker · 22/03/2022 09:05

Take them round Afflecks Palace
Depending on what they are interested in there are some good TV tours at Salford Quays - BBC studios, Coronation Street etc
Trafford Centre if they are into shopping
Old Trafford if they are United supporters
Chill Factore for ski/snowboarding fun. Indoor skydiving over that way too and Adventure Golf
Are they too old for Legoland Discovery?
Go Ape near the Trafford Centre
Music history walking tour
Roman Ruins at Castlefield
Museum of Science and Industry in Castlefield
Mooch around the Northern Quarter for record shops, comic shops, skate shops and vintage clothes- loads of good places to eat round there
It’s always worth a stroll down Canal Street just for how vibrant it is
Afternoon tea and take in the view from Cloud 23 at the Hilton in Deansgate - it’s on 23rd floor with floor to ceiling windows

Some ideas for you there OP - just depends what they are into

ClafoutisSurprise · 22/03/2022 09:08

A walking tour by Jonathan Schofield is always worthwhile - www.jonathanschofieldtours.com/

Make sure you check out the independent restaurants rather than chains. I think Manchester has a great range of budget and midrange places compared to other cities. I’d look at a site like Manchester Confidential or I love Manchester (former has a good searchable Guides section) for reviews rather than rely on Tripadvisor which throws up oddballs. These sites also have sections on what’s going on in terms of culture and other events.

Following as I am going at the weekend. Not with a teenager though. We are staying in the Premier Inn at Deansgate Locks. Been there before. It's fine but not the most central.

Loopytiles · 22/03/2022 09:11

I’ve stayed in some nice Ibis express (can’t remember the exact name) in manchester.

Tended to avoid piccadilly gardens and northern quarter.

Agree with PP about the great food options.

CountryCousin · 22/03/2022 12:06

This might suggest some novelties, mostly food!

Premier Inn "Manchester Central" on Lower Mosely Street is in a good spot or "City Centre Portland Street" is 2 minutes away.

Starlightstarbright1 · 22/03/2022 18:25

Brilliant thank.you lots to look through

I'm just back. We did cocktails at Deansgate Locks and went to the Rice Bowl in Cross St for fabulous chinese. Sunday we went to Media City and saw the Blue Peter Garden (@old and nostalgic) and Salford Quays and the Lowry. The market was good and outside dj gave it a bit of vibe. We did a boat trip from there for an hour. We were going to do the Imperial War Museum but ran out of time. Old Trafford tour next time.

Epictantrum · 29/03/2022 22:03

Could try Staycity, Aparthotel just above Piccadilly Station especially if it would be good to have separate rooms, lounge and a basic kitchen. It's really nice and modern.

MinglingFlamingo · 29/03/2022 22:05

We stayed at Ibis Princess Street when we went in 2019.

Pretty basic but was perfectly acceptable for a city break would definitely recommend

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/03/2022 22:06

there are some good TV tours at Salford Quays - BBC studios, Coronation Street etc

The BBC tours have discontinued. BBC recently announced they weren't restarting (after the covid closures).

bumblefeline · 29/03/2022 22:11

Premier Inn county hall. Good location for everything.

Mushrooms0up · 29/03/2022 22:15

For teens eat at Ramona - it is just pizza but it’s very trendy in a semi outdoor covered and heated teepee. (Probably best for lunch as it’s more of a bar in the evening)

Lollypop701 · 29/03/2022 22:35

Crown plaza shudehill is nice and can walk to Victoria train station. Northern quarter includes affleck palace for food and a walk round, great vibe. John Roland’s library

Phormiumjester2 · 29/03/2022 22:46

First Street is really cool too. See what's on at Home

inthegarden94 · 29/03/2022 22:50

The Edwardian hotel is beautiful and has an amazing restaurant attached to it call Peter street kitchen

The spa is also stunning there too and is included in the cost

inthegarden94 · 29/03/2022 22:52

Ps sorry only read the title of your thread before I jumped into recommending here haha - although depending on the age of your DD she may enjoy the hotels pool etc :)

emmathedilemma · 30/03/2022 09:22

@bumblefeline

Premier Inn county hall. Good location for everything.
