Made a mistake on eBay and not sure how to rectify it!

Hi,

I’ve started selling odd bits on eBay (sold 2 things so far totalling £6 🤣). Posted them off no issues, still awaiting the funds to be released due to me being a new seller. My plan was to just keep anything I make in a PayPal account and put it towards Christmas.

I listed a kids suit last night, I got it early last year for DS to wear to a wedding but then of course wedding was postponed because of Covid and it was never worn. I was clearing some stuff and saw the suit hung up in DS’s room. Wasn’t sure why it was out of his wardrobe but it jogged my memory about it, took photos, put it on buy it now and within 20 minutes it sold! Couldn’t believe it. Seller messaged me asking if I can post it tomorrow (today), I replied saying I couldn’t due to my working schedule and the earliest I can post is Wednesday. He said that’s fine but can you post it guaranteed next day delivery and I’ll pay the difference (not sure how that would
Work)

Pay the difference (not sure how that works).

Anyway, all fine until this morning when I mentioned it to DP and he said he’d promised to
Borrow it to his sister so DN Can wear it to a wedding on Friday! He’s the right age for it, DSIL mentioned a while ago she needed a suit for the wedding for Dn, DP remembered this suit and said nephew could wear it and that’s why it was hanging up ready for her to pick up today 😳.

So I need to cancel the order. Which is shitty I know but one of them things. However as I am
New the funds are held which is fine, but to refund its asking me to put my card details in to refund it from my bank. I don’t get paid until Monday, the total with postage is £28 and I have £67 till Monday for petrol to work and any bits/postage for eBay items . I just want to reverse the transaction and refund him from the held funds.

Is there anyway to do this? I have tried to speak to them on the online chat this morning but it takes me
In loops. I’m due in work at 9 and would rather the buyer have his money back asap so he can purchase something else. Is there anyway to do this? Feel crappy for cancelling and think ill just stick with taking everything the charity shop!

Yes I am sure there is a way to do a refund.

You could just be honest or say the item has been damaged!?!

Good luck 🤞🏻

Have a look in the help section of eBay - how sellers can cancel an order.

It says that the buyer will get an automatic refund when you cancel the order.

I’ve tried that but it’s then asking me for my card details, it says the refund will be given from my available funds but they’re just being held due to me being new which I have no problem with so I don’t actually have available funds

Not what you want to hear I'm not sure there is a way around it OP, the hold on funds for new accounts is what it is.

If you no longer want to sell it it doesn't matter when the buyer wants it because you're not going to complete the sale as per the terms.Since they're clearly wanting it asap I'd message them and say sorry but you can't post it that quickly anyway and the item is no longer available, cancel and refund. It isn't their fault and they'll have to wait for their money too while it processes.

It's just one of those things, and will be forgotten about by all in a week. Ebay is a great way to make a bit of money but it is subject to rules and terms of sale, listings need to be accurate and thorough and you do get used to it. After a few goes it will feel less of a big deal. You can set how quickly you'll post an item and what postage options are available when you create the listing. If a buyer pays and then wants something you've not offered you aren't obligated to say yes.

Hope you're able to sort it one way or another.

I have a similar issue, but different reason buyer has pulled out as refused to collect item even though that’s what advertised but already paid into EBay holding account as I didn’t have a card on there, won’t let me refund. An insistent that the money comes off my card too, which I have removed as it a large item an listing fee bonkers after several phone calls I have got no further. Currently looking at £170 bill off eBay for something which hasn’t sold. I won’t used eBay again either if they can’t sort it. There is a magical waiting time according to eBay. I get the impression off taking their staff that the system doesn’t recognise these issues so looks like a human will need to intervene. I have read the terms an codtitions multiple times an still unable to understand it.

What would happen if you explain to the buyer and ask them to cancel ?

MancInSpanx · 21/03/2022 15:30

Hi everyone thanks for the replies! I replied back to the buyer and said I wouldn’t be able to post it with the extra postage and that it did state on the listing it would be 3 working days for postage. I then spoke to a lovely woman from eBay via the calling service who said there is no way round it coming out of my bank but that it will then be released from my funds almost immediately then go back in my
Bank so I won’t be out of pocket for too long.

But then the seller messaged saying he’d rather the order be cancelled anyway so I have cancelled it, only 30p has come out of my bank? And I’m
Awaiting an email to confirm it’s been cancelled. Once the suit is back I’ll relist it (obviously not a brand new because it’s been worn!) and hope it’s less of a hassle next time!
