Netflix price increase

Is anyone else cancelling?

Just can’t justify the cost of it anymore. I’ll use the free streaming services and iplayer.

We have a lot more cutbacks to come I imagine.

I didnt even realise the basic package was lower 'whatever' it certainly doesnt look different to me. Mind you we have a 16 year old 28inch telly. And I wear varifocals.

I just logged on and it still says 5.99 for me so I expect is being done in phases. I have cancelled prime but DD watches netflix alot so will keep for now.

bookish83 · 21/03/2022 14:09

I would guess a lot of people have dropped down to the basic package to save money. So Netflix are trying to recoup costs that way!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 21/03/2022 14:13

we don't have paid for TV all the time, and if we do it's only ever one at a time. We rotate through Prime/Disney+/NowTV/Netflix and then a break from them all. Otherwise we run out of stuff to watch.

Because we only have each of them every 5-6months there's usually lots of new stuff on when we come back, and it feels like more of a treat.

It's worth adding that I don't think I've ever paid full price for Prime or NowTv as there are frequently offers as long as you stay away for 3months or so.

Basic
Pre- £5.99
May 2019 - £5.99
Jan 21 - £5.99
Mar 22 - £6.99

Standard

Pre - £7.99 (not changed since 2017)
May 2019 - 8.99
Jan 21 - £9.99
Mar 22 - £10.99

Premium

Pre - £9.99 (not changed since 2017)
May 2019 - £11.99
Jan 21 - £13.99
Mar 22 - £15.99

So between Mar 2019 and Mar 22 the premium has gone up 60% and the standard 37.5% with the basic "only" going up 18% - over 3 years so pretty enormous increases.

Netflix's subscriber base has leveled off in the UK now so clearly they want to increase revenue through price increases instead of subscriber increases.

We have Prime, With Starz while Outlander is on then will drop it. Netflix and Disney Plus all on basic still cheaper than out Sky was

wearingtheT · 21/03/2022 14:26

It represents much better value than a TV licence, you can opt out by calling them and declaring that you don't watch live TV.

The only thing I watch is Gardners world, and that's on you tube for free.

SartresSoul · 21/03/2022 14:30

We don’t have sky or anything so it isn’t a big deal for us really.

Papayamya · 21/03/2022 14:33

In fairness its the first time in 10 years that they've raised the price of the standard plan, not too bad really- brings us in line with what they charge in other countries. We will keep it probably as we don't watch much live TV so it's worth it for us- also have amazon as have prime.

Papayamya · 21/03/2022 14:34

Sky is ludicrously priced, you can get the same channels for so much cheaper on now tv (it's the same just streamed which is better anyway to be honest).

VampireMoney · 21/03/2022 14:40

We had the premium because having use of it on only one device is pointless in my house. Now it's gone up to £15.99 I've cancelled the whole thing. No way is it worth that now can I afford such a hike. We don't have sky or prime or now tv. We'll stick to Disney+ and YouTube.

Kinsters · 21/03/2022 14:51

We have Netflix and will keep it as we watch a lot on there. How are they going to crack down on the sharing logins?

We got Disney plus on an offer recently but will probably get rid of it as there's nothing on there we want to watch really. Might get it again when DD is a bit older and wants to watch Disney.

I wish iPlayer had a streaming service as I'd pay for that.

You can't get sky Atlantic though, can you? I've priced it up separately before - phone, telly and broadband and it didn't come up cheaper.
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/03/2022 15:07

**plus Netflix

Papayamya · 21/03/2022 15:14

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor yep you get sky Atlantic, now tv is owned by sky and so has their channels on there (if that makes sense). I look for vouchers every few months and usually get sky movies for £5.99 and entertainment for £3.99- also comes with box sets like sky does. Normal prices are more than that but they always have offers or vouchers floating about. I like that you can cancel anytime as well!

I'll into it but I get sky movies for £5.

Papayamya · 21/03/2022 15:16

At the moment for example it's £11.98 a month for 3 months of cinema and entertainment, once the 3 months is up you can find a different voucher or cancel without any penalty or having to phone up or anything. I think it's much better personally

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/03/2022 15:20

I think we pay £80 (I'll have to check) but we have sky Q including movies and Netflix plus multiroom, broadband and phone. I'll have to do another price comparison.

Sunnytwobridges · 21/03/2022 15:29

I've been contemplating cancelling it but we don't have live tv and i'm a tv junkie so I'd be lost without it. but its ridiculous. i remember when it was less than half that price. I miss those days lol

I definitely get my tv license worth thanks to cbeebies - I just don’t think other kids shows compare
saggyhairyass · 21/03/2022 16:21

We have the premium package and yes, we are thinking about cancelling. Also Sky TV as well.

Lightning020 · 21/03/2022 16:22

I have today lowered our Netflix to the basic £6.99 package. Ds is 17 so he will keep using it. I only watch it winters mainly anyway.

VampireMoney · 21/03/2022 16:45

I don't have any tv channels or watch live tv so I don't pay a tv licence anyway, opted out of that ages ago!
