Broken brace causing pain.

Sorry chat isn't quite the right area, just hoping for traffic at this time.
Ds1 whose 16 has just snapped the very back bracket off his top brace. All the advice online, says it's not a problem just wait until you can see your dentist.
Trouble is, he is crying and saying it really hurts. He has asd and massively struggles with sensory issues.
Any tips for helping him manage the pain, and hopefully sleeping at some point tonight.
Any idea if braces are ever an emergency and I could be missing something more serious?
Thanks in advance

Is it the wire sticking into his gum that hurts? You could try the wax if they gave him any of that? Although it's pretty useless .
Bonjela might help any sore gums ( check instructions tho for age restrictions)
We've resorted to minor orthodontistry ourselves before now, one holding phone torch and the other using sterilised nail clippers to bend the wire back!
Phone them in the morning though, get him in for emergency repair, won't take them long.

Try and take the wire out if you can, if you unfurl the elastics around the brackets (using tweezers ir snip woth nail scissors) then it should come out. Then call your orthodontist in the morning and they will put a new wire in. He'll be fine without it for now.

Can you stick some babybel wax or chewing gum over the end of the sharp wire? Or just the wax the orthodontist gives you? To make it into a soft blunt end.

If there's a sharp wire it can cause ulceration and yes be really sore. It's not an emergency overnight but should be seen by the orthodontist ASAP

Try some anbesol or bonjela to help with the pain. Sometimes difflam mouthwash can be held in the sore area to help with pain. It's personal preference as to what helps, but they do numb and sometimes people with asd can find that sensation odd.

Orobase if you can get it is fantastic and doesn't numb, just acts like a plaster but not sure of its available in the uk. Alloclair or genigel are alternatives if he doesn't like the numbing sensation!

Overnight maybe just some ice cream would help?
