Extended feeding- question about 2 year olds diet

DS has just turned 2, that was when I stopped feeding DS1 and imagined it would be the same for DS2. However, he seems to get such comfort from feeding, he has a feed when we get home from work/ child minders and then throughout the night, too. He comes into our bed every night after a few hours, and feeds on and off. He has a cuddle and feed before I go to work in the morning, too.

He's not fussed outside the house, which I'm glad about, but when at home at the weekend he might ask for a cuddle and feed during the day. It's no bother to me so I'm happy to keep going a while longer.

I've noticed recently though that he is eating less, and wanting to feed more. He has molars coming through which might have something to do with it. If he is skipping some meals and choosing more milk, will he still be getting the goodness that he needs? Should I try to feed him less now?

Having exactly the same here op so I'm afraid I don't have any advice!! If you've found a solution please update Smile

@britneyisfree no solution I'm afraid, but this phase has actually passed a bit. He's back into being sort of interested in meals and I think when he's hungry he eats- he must be getting enough. Still hoping someone comes along with more knowledge than me though

At 2, breast milk is not designed to be his main source of nutrients - if he's prioritising milk over food, you need to be cutting back the breastfeeds and offering more solids.

Maybe set an alarm twice a day that tells him it is milk time? Until then it's meal times.

I like that idea of @Chocolatecomaday . 2 is old enough to understand the idea of it.

That said, it'll be a phase in line with the teething and I don't think it's something you should overly worry about. He'll get his nutrients.
Things come along which cause this to happen, change, discomfort etc, but this too shall pass. As Long as you are ok with it then I am sure it's fine.

I'm still feeding my 2 year old...I wouldn't worry about him wanting to feed more and eat less if he has molars coming through, as its just temporary. My DS2 is the same when he is teething or under the weather, then when he is well again he stops wanting to feed as much.
