So today I've had to treat my three dds hair for headlice again!! they have had them several times since December. My oldest and youngest are fairly easy to treat but my 6 year old has thick curly hair and screams at top volume when I try to brush it!! It's gotten really tangled it's really hard to manage as she gets so worked up when I try to brush it so today I cut it, I took quite a bit off and dh has gone mad at me says I'm stupid and cruel I feel awful she has beautiful hair but I just couldn't manage trying to delouse her every other week with it being so long was I in the wrong?

@Patbutchersarrow

I leave it to dry naturally and don't use a hair dryer I have the same hair. It's neat you can't tell I've cut it myself we have hairdressing scissors and I often trim dds hair.
Hi @Patbutchersarrow you obvs kniw hiw to manage her hair, so clearly did tge right thing.

Your DH dislikes change and isunawaee about hiw difficult deliusing is. My DH didn't ever fet the hang of it. My DD has thick (like 3 persons worth of) hair with a natural wave nightmare. She used to cry. She once told me to leave them cos they need somewhere to live! I cut her hair - it actually looked nice - short Bob. So much easier to delouse.

But where do lice come from ffs.

I hated her going in primary school....! So happy when she git to secondary school cos headline just disappeared, puff!!!

Those head louse combs don't work for curly hair, you will never get all the eggs. The best thing is to treat, and then treat again in 9 days time when they will have hatched. I then use the head louse comb with conditioner to comb from the root about one inches length of hair to detach eggs. You can't run that comb through the whole length of curly hair though, you will rip out so much hair.

He can shut up.

Nit-combing x 3 is bloody brutal, and worse when they’re screaming at you.

If he’s not volunteering to do it himself, he can shut up.

Top tip!!

Conditioner onto DRY hair whilst they watch a film. Nitty gritty comb do get the eggs out.

YANBU to cut her hair shorter to make it more manageable. I have 4 DDs with long curly hair, fortunately not THAT curly though.

Thanks

I don't think I would have cut my DD's hair although I do see where you're coming from. My DD has long very thick hair and the nit years were a slog although we only had it bad twice so fairly lucky.
If your DD is not upset though I don't see why DH had to wade in unless its a bit of a mess and she's upset?
Do you feel you cut it to make life easier for you or did it genuinely need doing I suppose only you know which. However it's not fair your DH leaving you to all that slog alone.
