Root canal or extraction WWYD??

My first upper molar is causing me extreme pain, have had an X-ray through my nhs dentist who said it needs RCT but they can’t offer it. It’s looking like it’ll be around £600 to go private with a crown through nhs (or potentially more if the nhs won’t do the crown) and that’s not a specialist.

My other option is extraction and potentially an implant later on. I’m worried about paying all that money for the RCT to fail (happened to my lower molar on the opposite side, but that was through the nhs), but I’m only 25 and don’t want to lose 2 teeth this early on :(

I’m also going on holiday for a few weeks mid April and am worried the RCT might cause trouble when away because it looks like I’d need to go back a few times. I just need the pain to stop it’s agonising but I don’t know what’s best to do.

WWYD? Has anyone faced something similar?

There is no guarantee unfortunately, but I had two molars RCT and crowned in 1976 ( yes 46 years ago Grin) and still have both teeth. One has had a new crown about 10 years ago, but the other is still the original crown.

I react badly to dental treatment (medical conditions blah Hmm ) and when given the choice, went with having them removed as dentist was very doubtful a root canal would be problem free. If you have that done under sedation and have it done at a dental hospital, you don’t have to pay as it then comes under free hospital treatment, and not dental that has to be paid for!
